started out at an early age drawing, then later transitioned into music. I always wanted >>turntables, but didn’t pull the trigger until I heard Deltron 3030 for the first time in 2001. >>That album blew my mind! It was the first time I heard Kid Koala, and what you could >>actually do with them. I couldn’t get my hands on a setup fast enough! The rest is history.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your
inspiration behind it?
Blonde Dracula: I got my name from an old record that came with a matching comic book
about famous monsters. In the comic Dracula was rendered with blonde hair, and it just >>clicked in my head.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever
give your music away for free? Why?
Blonde Dracula: I personally think that online music sharing is a great thing, as long as >>it’s not something anybody would consider criminal. I do give my music away for free, >>often. I think it’s a powerful tool for exposure, as well as a great way to discover new >>music.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any
smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some
tips?
Blonde Dracula: I guess the best advice I could give is, don’t slack on any opportunity >>that may be presented. I try to work as quickly as possible, so I don’t hold up anyone >>else’s process. This will typically get you a “call back” for more work, because a lot of >>musicians don’t work that way. Or, so I’m told. Basically, if you get your foot in the door, >>kick it open!
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What
is your usual songwriting process?
Blonde Dracula: When I feel creative, my first step is to sit down in front of my DAW, and >>see what comes out. A lot of what I make is based on what I’m feeling. I’ll typically >>sequence a simple drum track to keep time. Something I can build on later. Click tracks >>drive me nuts.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you
use to share your music?
Blonde Dracula: I currently don’t have a website. I flew under the radar for quite a while. I >>mostly share my music on Soundcloud. I like how easy it is for anybody to access. I do >>cross promote on all my social media, though.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off,
what would you do? How would you spend it?
Blonde Dracula: Well, I guess I would do exactly what I do now. Just with some new >>recording gear and music toys.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works
best for you?
Blonde Dracula: Mostly social media, and word of mouth. It’s not my strongest suit, but >>it’s working for now.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want
to talk about?
Blonde Dracula: I always promote “Archer” on the FX Network, of course. Season 7 just >>kicked off! I also finally started up my Soundcloud. I post new tracks everyday. Check it >>out!
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Blonde Dracula: Probably dying inside. Haha! Something artistic for sure.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while
trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Blonde Dracula: I try my best to set aside certain parts of the day, for everything day to >>day. Including music. It doesn’t always work out, of course. But, it certainly helps.
