Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

KP da Postman: I grew up in Flint, Michigan. A.k.a. Fli City. Currently in an ongoing water crisis epidemic. I just call it America’s own 3rd world city.
Because not only is it always number one or three of the country’s most dangerous places to live at anytime, but also the “murder capital”. Myths are myths here! And monsters are real. That’s where I grew up.
But I had an outlet to use and connected to many other young people like me in my city; being an artist is in my blood, so I became what I am! I’ve always loved all music and what it does to you, and for you. I always wanted to be a part of that.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
KP da Postman: KP the Postman is an old nick name I got early on in my teens. Postman was given to me by my circle of friends back then. It really stuck because it was a real threat factor if it meant you had to battle “Postman” because my delivery was always ahead of its time. And I’m coming with BARS! I hear you don’t get to pick your nick names.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
KP da Postman: Online is a great way to share music with many people everyday. I do have some free downloads, and I do give out free mixtapes. Really I want lots of people to hear. They may need to hear it and let it make em’ feel some type of way with it. Music can change the vibe and the way your feeling. My music is supposed to make you feel empowered or unstoppable. That feeling should come freely if you ask me.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller, or local bands, or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
KP da Postman: Try to stay connected with DJs and event promoters. Producers often many of them. Check social media groups! Plus anytime local events are coming up you want be there to perform at that! Big or small. Participate in all them.
Promote wisely. And call those radio stations! See what they’re doing.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
KP da Postman: Personally for me it comes right from the beat that’s playing. It’s almost like I’m hearing the song like it’s done already! Or if we’re all feeling that way on it. I have a cold one and zone out. Turn it up loud, put it on repeat, and freestyle.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
KP da Postman: Website coming soon. Right now music is on Reverbnation.com, a good platform. Videos on YouTube. I’m not the only one uploading me on there. Sometimes we post samples of upcoming music on Twitter too. Facebook is always getting used, so find me on the book, or Twitter.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
KP da Postman: In all seriousness my family really, really, needs help getting out of the situations being forced on them in the Flint water crisis. It’s real, the damage is done, still being done, and they’re already in a dying city where we’ve had over 10,000 children exposed to lead, and E. coli, and no one can safely use a drop of water. I would need to invest wisely to be able to receive income flowing during my time off and doing all of this, because I know it won’t last forever. After the most important transitions I could only think to split up what’s left between investing in advancing my music career, and donations to the red cross, because that money goes to aid Flint families who desperately need all they can get during the state of emergency here. The Leaders haven’t been doing a thing to make health or life easier or better, and the governor has millions of dollars. And I know my son’s wouldn’t have to pay for college for sure again! Me either for that matter.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
KP da Postman: Communication! Post all your confident work in your social networks online and mention on the way stuff. Include others in as many things where you’ll be seen or heard too! Call people and tell em who you are. Take epic pics, and again with as many people as possible. DON’T BE CHEAP! Invest in self. Buy promo thru ads, or classifieds, or airplay. Beleive it or not volunteer! As a group or solo wearing your brand or logo, so many people can meet you personally. On a good note too.
Get creative, It’s the twenty-teens.
Exposed Vocals: So, what s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
KP da Postman: Yes! Everything! [lol] My “80s Baby” Mixtape. Look for that. Two books and a movie. The movie is an urban comedy called, ’For Friends’ that’s going to be bananas! That’s all I can reveal this early. The books are titled the “Big Black Book
On Swag” and “Theory of Everything” under, Kingston Paul. I want it on Amazon. They’ll be cheap.
Last year I was invited by the International Academy of Consciousness to lecture at the ICC 2nd – International Congress on Consciousness in Miami, Florida. May 2017. Very excited about that! Especially since someone’s listening and reading things I plublish.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
KP da Postman:´ Either stuck at a minimum wage job, hustling, or finishing a bachelor’s degree to end all of that. Either way I’d be still focused on making an acceptable life, because I’m a father. I don’t want to have to struggle while raising my sons.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
KP da Postman: Not easily. I’m currently in a single situation, but I still need family to help with certain things like when I have to work late nights in the studio, or shows etc. I still have to assure time that I can teach and discipline little ones. That often want to be around always, but can’t. Family and a close support system has been essential. Not saying it fixes or replaces responsibility, but rotates time spent in the healthiest way possible right now. Sometimes I’m off schedule a bit, but I continue moving forward until I’m there.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
KP da Postman: Look for ME! Everywhere. New productions. Collaborations with upcoming artist from the east to L.A.! New

I’m into everything big, and I’m making noise about it. I’m putting together a dance crew for the MidWest, and challenging anyone up to it to join the project. Holler at me on that. New music coming soon to DatPiff. Worldstar. And DVDs too. New sound cloud on the way too promote original beats by me and my producer (Ace BoonCoon). I’m always building something dope and productive.
