Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: We all grew up in a small town in the North of England called Morley. We have known each other throughout high school but only came together as a group September 2015. Originally we wanted to form a choir, but nobody else turned up so we created a band instead.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: We wanted to find a name that really represented us and as a collective we enjoy a variety of music, but one that caught us was the song Pumped Up Kicks. That got the ball rolling and we came up with the name Yesterday’s Kicks in a Eureka fashion.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: We love sharing our music on Sound Cloud and currently we just want to share our music as it’s something we’re proud of. For us, music is a right and everybody should be able to enjoy it. However, in the future we would like to have more of a potential career out of it and we want to ensure we have a high quality sound.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Yesterday’s Kicks: Get yourself out there. Social media is fantastic for small bands to market themselves and keep their audience up to date, as well as growing their audience, use Facebook, twitter, Sound Cloud, or any other social media platform you can find! People are always scouting for new music and if you can’t be found online then you’re not likely to be found at all. Don’t take any minor setbacks to heart, remember you’re doing what you love because you love it.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: We spend a lot of time together at college or at Holly’s log cabin. As for songwriting, we usually imagine we are in the situation of anyone we know who’s going through something particular, be it good or bad, and write about that.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: Currently we do not have a band website but we do have a Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud and YouTube. All of these can be found by searching for “Yesterday’s Kicks”.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: We would buy a camper van and go on a road trip, granted anyone can drive, and travel the world. It would be such an iconic place to write music. We would also buy endless amounts of Pringles and maybe a swimming pool. It would be such an iconic place to write music.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: Generally we use Facebook and Twitter. Lots of people in the right places are on these platforms and networking is a crucial part of getting to be successful.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: We plan on developing our sound and writing music. More performances at local gigs is a priority for us.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: We’re all currently studying for our AS levels so they would be very prominent in our lives, but playing together is quite a release and I think somehow we’d have all found a way to form this band.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: Music is a hobby and it should be enjoyed. We try not to put any extra pressure on the rest of our lives and never let music get in the way, that way we make sure we’re doing it because we love it, and not because it’s a chore.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Yesterday’s Kicks: We plan to upload more videos to YouTube- covers and originals. Also we want to play more gigs and get our sound out to as many people as possible.
