Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Sarie: I’m Sarie from Germany. I grew up in a small village near Berlin. I remember my mum giving me my first Bon Jovi cassette for my third birthday and it made me fall in love with music. I got my first guitar when I was 14 and it took me some time to figure it out. Now I never want to put it down. I always thought making music would be impossible but eventually I realised it was all I’ve ever wanted to do. Now I have my first guitar cover EP on Soundcloud.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Sarie: Actually my first name is Sarina but everyone keeps calling me Sabrina. So I abbreviated it to Sarie to let it sound more special and I think it fits my personality even better.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Sarie: I think every artist knows that it’s not easy to get noticed in music business. And it’s even harder to make money. I like the idea of having an actual chance to grow your fanbase with help of online sharing and I give my music away for free because I love what I do. It’s the response of the fans that motivates me more than any money.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Sarie: Be active in as many ways as possible. Use social media but don’t forget to go out and talk to real people. Show your talent to your family and friends because these are the people who will definitely support you and give you the courage to develop what you love the most.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Sarie: The best inspiration is life! Whenever I experience something special I keep it in mind or write it down. You never know if you could use it someday even if it’s just a little thing. I once had a very intense dream I couldn’t forget. Four years later I started to write about it. You can get inspiration out of everything. I haven’t released any own songs yet but writing is something I always loved and I’m definitely planning on some new songs.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Sarie: I think Soundcloud and YouTube give the best opportunities to share music with a lot of people. You can communicate all over the world and make connections with people you didn’t know actually exist and that’s the most interesting thing about it. Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Sarie: I would travel the world and try to play music for everyone who wants to listen.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Sarie: Besides Soundcloud and YouTube I like to use Twitter. It’s the easiest way to connect with fans and other musicians. It keeps you up to date with everything you’re interested in.

Exposed Vocals: So, what�s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Sarie: I just released my EP Silent New Paths a few days ago but I always have new stuff on my mind. I’d like to play live as much as I can, I want to write my own songs and make a music video.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Sarie: Actually I study at university. I also worked for some radio stations in the last few years so I guess that’s my Plan B.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Sarie: It’s never easy to find enough time with studying, working and family but I think if you really want to do something you find a way even if that means that you have to stay up all night. Actually nighttime is the best time for me to be creative.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Sarie: New music on Soundcloud and YouTube. Also I want to make a good music video.
