Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Krisis: I grew up in a small city called Coventry in the UK, where for a long time the music scene wasn’t what you could call “Boomin” but it has become much better with a lot of budding artists trying to pursue a career in music. Me personally though I was rapping before it became popular which sometimes frustrates me because i do this with passion & for the love of hiphop not just because its the “In Thing”. I knew i wanted to become a rapper as soon as i heard this style of music, i was fascinated by it.. which turned to an obsession. Im sure a lot of artists could relate.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Krisis: Ok so me & my best friend used to rap together when we left secondary school (High school) and he had come up with his name which was H (short for Havoc) & i wanted something that would go hand in hand with his name… and Krisis just seemed to fit well with it. Plus the fact that i hadn’t heard of anyone with Krisis as a stage name was even better for me.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Krisis: I think there is a lot of good that comes from online music sharing as it lets you reach a wider audience without the major labels being the only way for you to build a fanbase & relationships across the globe. I always give out free music n will always have music to give out for free on mixtapes & such as i know that not everyone has the money to purchase them so at least there are tracks that people can get & still be apart of my music.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Krisis: The biggest advice i can give is to make sure your music is to a high standard, the music will speak for itself as promoters & djs are looking for someone who can compete with the mainstream artists of today. Another word of advice is to not let the set backs stop you from pursuing a dream, I’ve been doing this for 15+ years and only now people are starting to listen. Its definitely not the easiest career to pursue, but i love it & couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Krisis: Usually its the instrumental that speaks to me & draws out the inspiration for certain songs, But also life in general is a major factor in my music with all my successes & struggles to partying & day to day living etc. It all works hand in hand with each other to create something real & true.

As for my songwriting process i like to have the music up loud, jot down ideas and work out a formula… I like to have Logic pro x open and as I’m writing I’m actually rapping & hearing what it sounds like when it comes to recording (Its a good way to stop you sounding like your reading it off your paper).

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Krisis: I am currently designing my own artist website which will hopefully be live towards the end of the year. At the moment though i use sites such as Soundcloud, Reverbnation & Youtube mainly but also get a lot of use out of Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Krisis: Damn… with half a million i would definitely invest in building my own high quality recording studio for my own personal use but can also be used to create an income from other artist looking for somewhere to record their music. If I’m honest all of the money would go in to my music career in some way such as music, videos, promo, merchandise etc, literally every aspect to further myself.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Krisis: To be honest when i release a song I’m not that artist that tags everyone in it hoping for plays as i know that frustrates a lot of people, i just upload & share it saying here is some new music available for a free download if anyone is feeling it. Also building relationships with potential fans is a must, theres no problem with becoming friends with fans especially if its genuine.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Krisis: There is quite a few things in the works at the minute, my archive of music is crazy.

I am working on my debut EP called “Silence Before The Storm” which will have 7 to 9 tracks on & will be for sale on all online distributors. Also i am working on a few mixtapes that will be released for free. My website is half way done & I’m looking forward to getting it finished by the end of the year. Hopefully you will all be hearing my songs on radio stations across the globe this year aswell. All in all theres a lot to come & for people to look forward to.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Krisis: I have no idea if I’m honest… id probably be working a 9-5 somewhere mad at myself for not pursuing my dreams. I definitely wouldn’t have made a lot of the friends i have & memories from experiences that I’ve got through music.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Krisis: Its tough.. really tough! but if you want it bad enough you will do whatever it takes to get you to your destination. I went through a stage where it was all work & had no time for music from being too tired & just wanting some time to relax.. i no longer work at that job (laughs). As for everything else like the people around me, they know i want this and let me get on with it with no questions asked.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Krisis: Definitely a lot of good quality music & merchandise. Hopefully ill have a world tour one day & ill be able to meet the fans in person to show my appreciation.
