Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Freeman: Well I come from Lynn, Ma, a.k.a. what people like to call City of Sin. I’ve lived here since I was only 4 years old where rap music was heard all around the city. I decided to become an artist when I started to listen to full albums like Good Kid M.A.A.D City by Kendrick Lamar, Born Sinner by J. Cole, 1999 Mixtape by Joey Bada$$, and Recovery by Eminem all at the age of 14. I was interested in the stories and what the lyrics meant which made me decide to do the same and my want to reach to those artists levels. I later on meet up with friends in high school who now rap with me that go by the names Kari P, Paradoxic King, and Toxic L  and we now go under the name Revo Music.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Freeman: I got the name Freeman from one of favorite tv shows The Boondocks. I wanted my mindset to be like Huey Freeman who was the intelligent kid who would speak for himself and speak on what he believed was the truth. Also my personality was somewhat similar to Riley Freeman who was the kid that would fool around and sometimes be immature so I believed those two characters were similar to who I was as a person. Last but not least the definition of Freeman from google is “a person who is entitled to full political and civil rights” so I guess that’s part of it.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Freeman: I think music sharing is one of the best ways to get connections to other artists who are similar to you and also helpful for gaining an audience. All the music I do is free and I have recently contacted with a producer that goes by the name Djinn who now started to mix and mastered any the tracks I upload now. Music sharing is a blessing.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Freeman: Well I still believe I’m still not on that level yet but a tip on how to get gigs is to check out indieonthemove.com. You are able to find any events looking for new artists to perform in the area you are at or anywhere else. Also be active on social media.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Freeman: I just enjoy playing my favorite tracks mostly from Kendrick Lamar and I would look up the lyrics on rap genius and see what idea I come up with for my next song. Also it depends on how I’m feeling on the day when I’m writing my lyrics.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Freeman: Make the greatest project with the greatest producers. Also spend time out America with my family. This country is too much.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Freeman: I find a bunch of music promos on Twitter and sign up on there websites. Also I show my music to my friends that help spread the word about me locally.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Freeman: Young Revo Project coming out soon. No idea when but soon! Also I’m trying to do features with the Revo crew and any other rapper that is interested.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Freeman: Doing Homework.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Freeman: Well my sophomore year of high school I did horrible trying to juggle both school and music but right now I’m doing much better by writing after finishing my work and do recording sessions on weekends.
