Having Orchestrated/Composed music for Dream Theater’s The Astonishing , Jennifer Aniston’s Life of Crime, NY time critics choice Dementia and various others films, Jason Turbin has been around the music scene. This time he steps into the limelight under the name Cadence Kid. Producer Cassidy Turbin who took home 3 Grammys for his work with Beck has Produced the 1st single Xtc (Ecstasy) with Cadence Kid. The song is super sweet and oh so catchy!

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Grew up mainly in LA.  Can’t remember when I decided to be an artist…..since I was a little lad, I’ve always loved art and creating it.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

I was struggling with just using my name Jason Turbin but found it to be uninspiring. So, I figured why not use Cadence Kid. I’m big into music theory so the word Cadence is very near and dear to my heart.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

It’s great for an independent artist like myself to get out there versus a huge act in which millions of dollars have gone into the creation of the art and promotion only to get pirated. At this stage in the game, I don’t care if people stream the song or rip it from youtube.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

To be honest, I don’t know myself and as the music industry changes so will the way to get exposed to an audience. The only tip I could give is if you are doing music strictly for money or  popularity you won’t be happy doing it. Just go back to making music for the thrill of creating it and just enjoy the art of it.

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

Hahaha! I forget my own lyrics all the time and I just keep singing and hope for the best.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

I usually demo all the parts and arrangements in Logic Pro with midi and then replay it all with the real instruments into Protools.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

I’m mainly listening to Classical/Orchestral right now so nothing too embarrassing.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

Write, record and make music and music videos all day!

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

As of right now I’m content with what I have but who knows what next month has in store for me.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

George Martin has been on my mind lately.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Next song I’m planing on releasing is called “Whistling Your Name” and I’ve got a fun little music video for it as well.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Living in the forest with my dogs away from civilization and one with nature.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

Pink Floyd’s  “A Saucerful of Secrets” and all I could think of was, “WOW!”
