Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
DEFIANTDEME: well i was born in north philly and i moved to Charlotte when i was 10 because my dad was getting transferred to a new base, and i basically grew up in charlotte. But what made me become an artist was i spent alot of time in the studio with my friends because they made music so i started playing around with it, eventually i came up with the song “FERRISBUELLER” and just the energy of the room changed and it made me feel like the man yo and i loved that feeling so much that i had to keep going.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
DEFIANTDEME: the way i came up with my name was because i was so bad in school and i never followed rules, and everybody calls me deme so i just put the two together.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
DEFIANTDEME : i love online music sharing, it’s actually how I built my name, it definitely helps alot because your music can reach alot of places through it, and as far as free music all my music is free until I make a real name for myself but even then i wont release an album until I feel like its something worth buying.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
DEFIANTDEME : Just work work work, if you not doing that and your sitting around just waiting for a break it’ll get you nowhere.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
DEFIANTDEME : usually when im writing a song i get high, i sit there for a little bit and vibe to the beat and get a feel of what melody i want to use, then i go for it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
DEFIANTDEME : yea my music is on spinrilla and soundcloud, but most of its on soundcloud.
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
DEFIANTDEME: honestly i would invest in the things that would help me in the long run, and once the real money rolls around thats when ill do the splurging, i cant say i wont do a little splurging but im pretty sure everyone would if they had half a mil
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
DEFIANTDEME : I promote most of it through instagram, twitter and tumblr but most of it i do myself because its to many people hating on each other in charlotte when we could all be helping each other, u see how Atlanta did it, why cant we?
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
DEFIANTDEME: well what i have next in store is my mixtape TIMD(Till I Meet Death) that im working on at the moment, its coming out on spinrilla on 4/20 so be on the lookout.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
DEFIANTDEME: to be honest i feel like it was destined for me to do this, it’s weird to say but i cant see myself doing anything else but skating and trapping…
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
DEFIANTDEME : its not hard because i have my own studio so i can make music whenever i feel like it
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
DEFIANTDEME : alot of good music in store and also i have a streetwear brand i just came up with so thats on the way too.
