Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
A.K.Nash: I grew up in New York City I’m mainly from queens East Elmhurst to be exact but as a kid I spent a lot of time in Washington heights and Harlem. I always wanted to be an artist this wasn’t just a decision I made this was something already set for me from when I was born I was born for this. Music is why I’m here on this Earth living.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
A.K.Nash: A.K.Nash is who I am. Ive always been called Nash as a nickname i can’t really remember when it started but I put the A.K in there because basically I kill beats. An A.K. is a weapon and for me my lyrics are a weapon.
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
A.K.Nash: I think online music sharing is a great way for people to hear your music. Everyone goes online people are on social media all the time so the internet is the perfect place to share my music. Its always nice to get paid but my music is worth more than money so if i absolutely have to I would give my music out for free. Right now I have songs on soundcloud anyone can download my music right now for free if they wanted to technically. People get music for free all the time so I don’t oppose that because people are gonna do it anyway.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
A.K.Nash: You just have to keep putting your music out there and keep promoting. Never stop making music never stop promoting your music. Never stop chasing your dream and have a lot of faith with a lot of hope and motivation.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
A.K.Nash: I usually get inspired by anything really. Theres times something will just pop up in my head and I would have to write it down asap. Also listening to other artist any other artist music or just an instrumental really is always inspiration. So when I actually write I just think about everything thats going on with me and I just write i don’t have an exact writing process because its different every time. If I’m writing to a beat i would like hum how I want me to rap it and then the words come together. Sometimes I just record myself free styling and when i play it back I write down things I want to keep add some lines and take away some lines.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
A.K.Nash: I do not have a website yet but I do share my music typically on Youtube and Soundcloud. I also have songs available for streaming on other apps. Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
A.K.Nash: If I had a year off I’d probably spend a lot of time with my family. Probably relax in the Dominican Republic or something. Most of all I would just live in peace but the chances of me taking a year off is rare because there’s always work to be done no matter what.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
A.K.Nash: I usually promote my music on social media mainly twitter. witter has been the best way for me to promote my music so far I’m sure there are other ways I just haven’t got to it yet but I would love for my music to be promoted some other way besides me just posting it on social media.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
A.K.Nash: I’m working on an EP It will be called “Hip hop”. I’m not sure exactly when its going to be ready but you can expect it before the year ends. My single As I Please will be on the EP. The EP will be able for streaming on Youtube, soundcloud and everywhere else basically.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
A.K.Nash: If I wasn’t making music then something must really be wrong with me. I don’t see myself doing anything else but music, it’s my passion, the one thing thats always been there for me so I would never turn my back on music.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
A.K.Nash: I look at things as music is one of my main priorities and everything I do I’m doing it for the music. I have a lot of faith and I know with God everything will always fall into place.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
A.K.Nash: Fans should just keep an eye out for me because this year is just the beginning of me taking over the industry. I have a lot planned and a lot to do so all I can really tell my fans right now is to be on the lookout for A.K.Nash
