Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

We are from Northampton. I first became interested in music after seeing my uncle play the guitar and ever since then have been fascinated with music and musical instruments alike.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Operatives as a word can be defined and interpreted in many ways although we don’t often clean the machines at the end of every shift!

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

We gave our first album away as all we wanted was for people to get the opportunity to hear our music. Since then we have the physical copies that can be bought or downloaded via our website. but still allow our music to be streamed for free.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Have heart and passion in what you are doing. If what you are doing starts to get recognition you’ll want to be able to play those same songs without feeling like a glorified karaoke or your own tribute band.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

It varies often the music comes before the words. We stay clear of politics and religion and write about things that we have experienced or people we have known and things that make us laugh.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Our website is www.operativesnoise.com. Our music is also available on Spotify, Itunes, Bandcamp and Soundcloud.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

I would build a  recording studio and patent a whole new style of trousers.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

All of the social networking tools with lots of gigs and contacting like minded bands for gig swaps and such.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

We have just finished our new album Dirty Juices that is quite far removed from the previous album. This album was mostly recorded using acoustic instruments such as banjos, mandolins, xylophones, double bass, violins and various percussion. We all have massively varied influences but it still feels very natural when it comes together.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Making movies or something artistic, sewing or crochet.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

The important people in my life are totally supportive of my creative ventures and this makes it easier to pursue and work on new projects.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Our next album will be finished in the late summer of 2016 with plenty of live shows.
