Exposed Vocals Interviews Electrockrat
Hello Exposed Vocals my name is Omer Goren and I’m a 26 yrs old singer/songwriter from Israel.
I was born in Jerusalem and grew up in suburb nearby called Mevasseret Zion.
At the age of 13 I’ve decided that I need a more physical way to express myself, my thoughts and feelings so I went with
my father to buy my first classical guitar and started learning music and take guitar lessons.
A year later I switched to an electric guitar. This is when for the first time I knew that music is going to be a big part in my life.
When I’ve finished my 3 years service duty in the I.D.F at age of 21 on the year 2010 I’ve known for sure that music is my life and that me and my guitar won’t be separated again for a long time.
June 2012 was a very important and significant period of time for me, this is when I walked inside a recording studio for first time to record my own music. Back then I recorded with an amazing and talented producer (Noam Helfer) two instrumental songs, “Teenage vibe” & ” On The Edge”, and this is how Electrockrat was established and started as instrumental electronic project.
After we’ve finished recording “Freedom” another instrumental song, we’ve decided to try the next song with lyrics and the rest is history.
Dotan produced for me six more song after “Freedom”: “Mind Travel Intro”, “Ready To Leave” (Electrockrat ft Roi Levi) ,”Fade Away”, “Sometimes”, “Place To Go” and ” Mind Travel Outro”
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Electrockrat:
The name Electrockrat is a combination of three words: Electronic, Rock and aristocrat.
Electro stands for electronic, rock stands for rock music and rat stands for aristocrat and that is the way I came up with the name Electrockrat
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Electrockrat:
I truly believe that online music sharing is a good way to reach a broader audience and more people on a global scale.
I’ll have to yes and no because fans can find my music online, listen to the album and also repost it on platforms like sound cloud but if they really want to have the songs from the album stored on their computer they’ll have to purchase the album on band camp.
Electrockrat debut album “Mind Travel” will be available for purchase soon on www.bandcamp.com/electrockrat.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Electrockrat:
A few important tips I can give you is:
1) Make sure to always be around and noticed .
2) Never give up on your hopes, dreams, skills and talent for anyone.
3) Always try to think fresh and new.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Electrockrat:
Usually my songwriting is inspired by 3 factors the music itself, my thoughts and feelings caused by the events in my life and those around me also have a strong effect on my writing process.
My songwriting process usually stars at totally at different angle from most of the other songwriters you know of, my process most of the time begins from writing the music and not necessarily from the lyrics, when I hear the music automatically my brain starts to convert the notes into words.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Electrockrat:
Electrockrat have several websites and blogs such as Youtube, Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr:
www.youtube.com/channel/UCHxT_
http://electrockrat.tumblr.
https://twitter.com/
https://soundcloud.com/
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Electrockrat:
If I were given half a million dollars I would probably spend it on recording and studio gear and build my own recording studio.
About the year off I would use it to produce my second album in my new studio. That is if I’ll have any time and money left after touring the world promoting “Mind Travel”.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Electrockrat:
My ways to promote my music except from live shows and other events where people can see me perform is through platforms like Facebook, Soundcloud, Youtube and more.
All the platforms to promote are working good especially on Facebook but the one that works best for my is for sure Soundcloud.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Electrockrat:
Electrockrat have a few destinations:
1) A live show tour for the debut album “Mind Travel” across Israel.
2) Shooting a music video for “Sometimes”.
3) Publish first single “Sometimes” to the national media.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Electrockrat:
First of all I can’t even begin to think about my life without making music but if I wasn’t making music and didn’t have that deep desire for music I probably would’ve continued with the profession I’ve gained in the I.D.F which is a battle field medical technician.
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Electrockrat:
Life as a musician in Israel is tough and it’s really hard to get ahead. You can’t live only as a musician without having a day job to increase the level of income so it will be enough for daily basic needs. In my case those jobs were bartending and also as a M.T and armed security guide escorting organised Israeli and tourist groups in field trips all across the nation.
For me the music comes first on the responsibilities chart or graph so I make sure that nothing will be in my way. If there are some obstacles I’ll do anything to solve them so that I could continue climbing to the top.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Electrockrat:
2016 is a very important year for Electrockrat :
1) “Mind Travel” release show.
2) Shooting a music video for “Sometimes”.
3) Digital album selling on band camp.
4) Electrockrat “Mind travel” tour in Israel and who knows maybe also abroad.
