Exposed vocals:so tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Well my story hmm its easy I went to dhs. Custody at two because my moms ex boyfriend broke thirteen of my bones. he’s passed away just last year. if you wanna know a little bit about that look up Arkansas crime files on YouTube you’ll learn a little bit about what happened.I grew up in walnut ridge Arkansas. I’m originally from paragould Arkansas an hour away from walnut ridge. My childhood and what has happened in my life today now that I’m 22 is the reason I decided to started writing wanting to be an artist.
Exposed vocals: how did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Well my name come up when I was talking to my family and I was telling them I wanted to be a rapper. They started calling me mc James and I didn’t like it, so me being me I said hey, how about James codee. They looked at me puzzled and said you can make your own name, and if that’s What you wanna go by go for it. I’ve been stuck with it ever since. The inspiration behind it came from my whole name James codee Alan millsap.
Exposed vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away free? Why?
James codee
Online music sharing is good to do. You actually get a chance for other artist or fans to hear you. The criticism is what I like it don’t bother me just makes me learn what to work on and makes me write and rap ten times better than before. My music is not givin away free or even at all. Its my music I’m writing I feel like I’m the on that should be heard not another person.
Exposed vocals: since everyone has start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips.

Well here’s a tip for local bands who want gigs and airplay. NEVER GIVE UP. Take every chance that jumps in front of you.
Exposed vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual song writing process.
James codee
Well my songwriting inspiration comes from when I listen to my music on my phone I’ll put my head phones in learn from different types of music.when I relate to a song it throws me back into my past and today. I try to tell a story bout who I am as a writer and as a person. My usual song writing process you May ask. Well I freestyle right I do t listen to a beat I make my own in my mind and write from the beat in my mind instead of the beat I would usually hear on YouTube or from the downloaded songs on my phone.
Exposed vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

I don’t have a band website. I use YouTube and reverbnation as my music platforms you can find my songs if you, save you, better man, and only God knows why on YouTube.
Exposed vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
James codee
Well if I ever get handed half a million dollars I’m investing in a studio Millsap records. Then ill buy me a house and another vehicle then save the rest. I’d spend my money wisely.

Its interesting you ask that question. Well I promote my music through twitter, Facebook,YouTube, and reverbnation. YouTube and twitter work best for me.
Exposed vocals: So what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Well the next project I’m working on is a song for my sisters boyfriend. He used to be a good friend of mine now he’s really been messing up. My sister has completely shut me and my mom out of hers and my nieces life. This is a very up beat and aggressive project. Its been an emotional rollercoaster ride.

Exposed vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

See I’m not about staying ahead, I like being equal, so before I go to work or even when I’m off I’m constantly coming up with new ideas. My mind never shuts off from music especially when I’m at work. I just reminisce on lyrics through the day.
