Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Slim savage: I grew up a majority of my life in Orlando Florida I was born in port au Prince Haiti and migrated to the U. S at the age of 5. I’ve always had a passion for music ever since I was a little kid. What made me decide to pursue to make music was, one day I made a little melody in my head walking to school and I thought it was dope I showed it to one of my friends when I got home and he said it sucked. Ever since then I was determined to prove him wrong.
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Slim savage: I’ve always been a skinny, slim kid my whole life, some people even thought I was anorexic. and the way I attack beats is very savage in nature. I know there’s a lot more other slim savages out there, but I figured I’m better than a lot of these dudes if any one should change their name it should be them lol
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
Slim savage: I believe online music sharing is the new modern way to share your sounds, since everything now a days is online. I do believe in giving my music away for free especially since I’m not well known. But lately I’ve grown tired of it, I need to start making money off my music
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Slim savage: since I’m basically at my start up stage I don’t have much advice, but the one thing I can say is don’t be afraid to show people your work. Don’t be afraid to walk up to a stranger and ask them to follow you on sondcloud and show them your work, oh and also count on family they will always share for you.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
Slim savage: my inspiration comes from listening to other artist, if I hear a song I think is just dope, that motivates to at least attempt to make something just as dope or better. listening to myself as well, that always motivates me to try to out do myself. My songwriting process, well when I’m high, when I wake up in the mornings and when I’m in the bathroom those are the times I just feel are the best time to write something.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
Slim savage: I don’t have a website. I have a soundcloud and a YouTube and of course twitter. I’m not really a social media fan. You won’t catch me on most sites really
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Slim savage: my first goal would be to start a business most likely a strip club, or any other type of business that would keep money flowing in. Then I would donate and help the world primarily Haiti because that’s my birth country. Then I would just splurge on myself my family and anyone who helped me make it. Oh and of course I would be making music paying for studio time, promotion etc
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Slim savage: I usually just copy the link and send it to people and tell them to share. What works best for me and is really the most tiring thing to do is I send the link to everyone in my kik
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Slim savage: my current project is my new mixtape that I’m working on that’ll be titled reloaded. Other than that nothing much unless a feature randomly pops up
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Slim savage: I honestly don’t know, I can’t say school because I don’t excel in that, it’s sad to say but I think I’d be out on the streets doing some crazy stuff for money
Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
Slim savage: music really is my priority, as of right now I don’t have much responsibilities but when I did, I always set times for me to work on music like maybe every night or every morning. And the times I’m not working on songs I would use to do whatever else that needed to be done
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
Slim savage: my new mixtape reloaded, and I don’t really know what the future really holds, so just new songs I guess
