Exposed Vocals interviews Brian McTamaney
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I’m from Richmond, Va. I still live there. Everything for me started when I first heard Elvis Presley on the oldies station my mom always listened to. He’s the King!
Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?
Ha, it’s my birth name….
Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?
I’m a big believer in it. It gives me the chance to hear a lot of artists that I may not have heard anywhere else. If it’s an artist I absolutely love, I’ll go out and buy their albums to support them. I allow people to listen to my tracks for free on my You Tube channel, and on Sound Cloud.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Social media. Build a fan base outside of your city. Internet has made the world a lot smaller, it’s nice to know that people all over the world can listen to your music.
Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?
It depends. Most of the time the first line will pop in my head and I’ll base the whole song around that. Sometimes I’ll hear a phrase in movie of TV show and try to put my own experiences in it.
Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?
I don’t have a band website, but I share my music, as well as some of my video blogs, on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/user/brianscoolthings82). I also have an account on Sound Cloud (https://soundcloud.com/brian-mctamaney)
Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?
Well, first I’d pay off my student loans! Then I would travel the country. I’m a big history buff (especially music history) so I’d like to see some of the birthplaces of my heroes. Lubbock Texas would be on the list, and Memphis of course.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I prefer doing everything on line. I record in my home studio; I put the tracks up, and get feedback. I haven’t had a band in a while so I don’t really perform anymore.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
When I feel inspired to write and record the music is usually up on Sound Cloud within the next couple of days.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?
I have so many hobbies, as well as a personal life; I just try to do it all. I haven’t burnt out yet, ha!
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?
More music for sure, I’d also like to get back into doing my video blogs. Some of the episodes are more popular than others, but it’s a fun hobby. I’m always looking for new things to write about.
