Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

Futorian: ”Actually, I heard about Exposed Vocals through Twitter, because after some time my Twitter account got a follow by Exposed Vocals, so that I checked out the website and so on. But afterwards I got a request again through Twitter if I’d like to make an interview, that’s why there is this interview now.”

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

Futorian: ”So, my parents come from the Philippines, but I was born in Germany and grew up here. After quite some time in school, I think that was in 5th Grade, I decided to learn to play the piano. In the next 2 years I also learned to play the drums and the guitar. About 3 years ago from now I got my hands on some Djing, because of some DJ friends, and that was the time where I first came in touch with electronic music. I was very curious and decided to just try it out first and just produced some cover tracks. Since then I always improved, made more and more music and bought more equipment aswell. Basically, this makes what I am today, half student and half producer.“

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

Futorian: ”My inspiration behind it was only that I do really like Future House which is aswell one type of genres I mailny produce, that’s why I wanted a name which kind of contains ‘Future’ in it and in the end it was Futorian. It was like the first idea I’ve come up with.”

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

Futorian: ”I think the internet is a very great and big invention and especially for unknown artist such as me it makes it easier to share music online and try to build up a fan base through all of those social networks, much easier than before the internet was invented. But still I do not give away all of my tracks and allow people to do download it just for free, because I was quite a lot of effort to make all of my tracks and I know there are quite a lot of people out there who do not really care about copyright. I like sharing with other people, but only up to a certain limit.”

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Futorian: ”I do not have much experience regarding this topic, but I can definetly say that if your in for the money only you will not reach anything. Most gigs in the beginning are mostly low paied or even for free, because the goal with those gigs is just to show other people yourself and try to get known locally, to get in touch with other artists and to build up a fan base, because fans are the most important factor in music to get more known. So in the beginning just try to get as many gigs as possible in your region that helps a lot.”

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

Futorian: ”We are all people. And people tend to make mistakes over and over again. Don’t let yourself get down because of that, just laugh about the mistake and learn about it, so that next time you don’t do the same mistake again. Just prepare your gigs properly and everything will be fine and you don’t need to be nervous eventhough I know it can be quite difficult.”

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

Futorian: ”Unfortunatly I don’t tour and I don’t have any experience with tours.”

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

Futorian: ”As I only have a really small bedroom home studio I gain my songwriting inspiration usually when sitting infront of my laptop and messing around with my keyboard until I have a melody I really like or I look in the internet for cool songs I would really like to remix (e.g. at remix contests). Then I build my whole song upon this idea or song and work at it mostly 24/7 until I am finished. At first it took a very long time producing one track, but after gaining some experience I have found my routine, so that I became much faster now. I don’t think I have to explain now how I produce a track with my program, because that would be to much.”

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Futorian: ”Yes, I use quite many platforms, but for my music I use SoundCloud and Spinnin’ Records Talent Pool and for social media I have the standards such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.”

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

Futorian: ”I think everyone has those types of songs in their playlist and I think in my case those are my first songs I have ever made, because at that time I didn’t know much about music production and just tried around and always when I listen to those tracks today I realize how much I already improved through the years, because those tracks just sound very crappy.”

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

Futorian: ”I would spend most of it for music production equipment, so that in this one year I can make as much music as possible and improve the quality of the tracks aswell. Also, I would travel a lot, try to get gigs everywhere and try to work with many other producers. But most importantly, I would give a part of the money to my parents, because they helped my a lot becoming who I am now.”

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

Futorian: ”Currently, I am working on a remix for the Spinnin’ Records remix contest and looking forward to upload it this week on their website and hopefully I will reach a high rank.”

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

Futorian: ”I really only use the internet as my main promotion with all its social networks and platforms such as SoundCloud. When I upload a song on SoundCloud or Spinnin’ Records I always share the track on every other social network I have for example Instgram where I post short video clips of my newest tracks.”

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

Futorian: ”My dream since I started producing music was always to play at the main stage of Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival in Miami, because I love the atmosphere and the whole crowd there when they would sing along to my tracks. That would be such a great experience for me. Also, I would like to play with EDX and Oliver Heldens, because those two Djs combine the music type I make myself and I enjoy it very much. The next one sounds quite weird, but I would also like to perform with Zara Larsson, because she is a wonderful and beautiful person and her voice is just stunning. I’d really like her to sing live along to my tracks, that would be quite amazing.”

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

Futorian: ”Yeah, I really look forward in producing more tracks and then releasing those tracks in an EP or even an album maybe in some time, so stay tuned.”

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Futorian: ”I think I would just fully concentrate on school because I really want to study mechanical engineering at a university and in my free time I would just play video games. But to be honest I can not imagine a life without making music.”

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

Futorian: ”To be honest, as I don’t have any CD-Players at home and always sit in front of my computer, I haven’t bought any albums yet, because I always use Spotify.”

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

Futorian: ”I manage my time quite good so that I can manage other reposibilities such as my school quite decently and I get quite good certificats aswell, but I have to say that it is really exhausting sometimes especially when I have to write many exams, because I need to learn much and much less time is available for music.”

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

Futorian: ”Much more music and maybe also some of my first tracks that I offically release on platforms such as iTunes and Beatport.”

Futorian is a 17 year old producer and DJ from Germany and does still goes studying in school. He mainly produces electronic music in form of House and some EDM. All of his tracks are produced by himself.
