Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Cinzas: I was born and raised in São Paulo Brazil. I didn’t used to like music until I was 16 years old when I heard “Bittersweet Symphony” by The Verve and was blown away. Music made me discover myself, it brought up feeling I didin’t even know I had. Music to me was like astrology, an instrument of self-knowledge. Since then, I became an arduos music listener and ended up writing songs, and when I realized, everything was done.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Cinzas: Cinzas de Trezes in English it means Gray of Thirteen. I don’t know, I just know that I didn’t want it to be a name. I didn’t want to be a name and this comes from an inspiration, it came from the sky.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Cinzas: I think it’s awesome all the possibilities the internet provides us. I’m an  artist and don’t sell my art. The capitalism changed the art in merchandise and what I do is not merchandise but art. I am also a poet and novelist. So I think it’s great that people are able to download my music for free through the internet.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Cinzas: Well, I am an artist who is looking to get gigs and airplays. I will be eternally grateful if you help me spread my work.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

 

Cinzas: Never drink wine if you are about to sing on stage.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

 

Cinzas: I haven’t had any tours yet.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Cinzas: Philosophizing.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

 

Cinzas: Some old ones by Coldplay.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Cinzas: I’d invest it in my musical career.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 

Cinzas: I am working on new songs and a video to “Peregrinos”.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Cinzas: I just starting. You are one of the ways.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 

Cinzas: Anywhere beside Janis Joplin. Because she used to transpose the deepest and most intense feelings while singing, just like me.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Cinzas: Videoclip to “Peregrinos” and more independent songs.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Cinzas: Writings novels.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

 

Cinzas: The future is Medieval by Kayser chiefs. What was going through my head was that I had to know more bands that made a sound like this one. But it’s obvious htat I had already downloaded many other albuns and songs illegally.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Cinzas: I just take pills and sleep.
