Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

DuHBooZeR: I didn’t really hear about exposed vocals… exposed vocals came to me through twitter. Once again thanks for the follow. In all honesty I haven’t signed up for anything because I haven’t made any money in the past few years due to personal reasons. Currently trying to find employment while I do what I think I was put on this earth to do… which become a producer & help expose my friends/fellow artists in my area and see them do well. eVerlit & honah lee just to name a few.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

DuHBooZeR: First of all thanks for the interview. I want to get 1 thing straight…  I don’t consider myself an artist. My music is currently only a reproduction that I don’t have any rights to. It is for enjoyment purposes only and I what I do for fun on the side at the moment. If you choose to listen to it so be it but, it doesn’t bother me if haven’t chosen not too as well.

DuHBooZeR: As far as my story goes… Well I grew up in the suburbs in a spot called Levittown, Pennsylvania. I didn’t really grow up in the best of circumstances, I lost my Dad at quite a young age that I’d rather not discuss but is sorta the way I am after the fact. Lets make a long story short by explaining I’ve have done some drugs in my past that made me think & hear differently than people involving music. I could hear similar sounding tracks of samples used in tracks that music fans aren’t aware of. I could hear a 1-2 second clip and hear how it was sampled and used in various tracks. I also could hear possibilities to edit a track or use part of a track to come up with something completely different or find a way to merge the two or more tracks that used the same or similar samples to mix them together into 1.

DuHBooZeR is simply an aspiring producer who in some degree “manages” Seltik besides helping on lyrics in some tracks on Welcome 2 Pencilveinya mixtape and other old tracks I recorded. I did the editing, mixing, self promotion to a select audience, image creation “photo shop”…  cover art for – DuHBooZeR presents Welcome 2 Pencilveinya. I also, did the track naming as well as track transitioning between the tracks.

My artist Seltik is a separate person. He does his own writing and freestyling.

 However, We are a duo. We met back in high school in and became friends. More on that later.

As far as DuHBooZeR goes… Let’s see what made me become an “artist” besides the drugs…. I think that it has started listening to all types of genres and listening to mashed up of tracks from Skratch N Sniff putting together some crazy stuff that you can catch them on soundcloud and on various radio stations fridays, saturdays and sundays as well. Also listening to tracks and being mixed and feeling like I could do better. I would also have to say the influence of Linkin Parks ReAnimation disc coming out. Probably hearing samples of tracks of tracks used from a rock artist I happen to like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – Free Fallin  that also was used in track from a hip hop artist I happen like as well Chamillionaire – Good Morning. I can’t forget about KRS One Step Into My World using Blondie’s – Rapture’s Delight as a sample. Also, I cant forget about the classic Walk This Way with Aerosmith/Run DMC fusion before Jay-Z/Linkin Park callaborations . Using those as basic building blocks I just started noticing things in music that I think most people look over or sometimes get confused when the music comes on like Under Pressure and Ice Ice Baby your classic confusion track the last I checked on the radio. I don’t listen to any of that music that is out there that music. Im more old school like 80s and 90s with a little sprinkling of the 2000s and up. I’m not saying I dislike it all cause I grew up in different decade and just feel that it just doesn’t have substance. How many times can speak of the same topics of glamour and glitz, popping bottles and getting money? Am I right?

Seltik and I happened to live right near each in the same section but just on opposite sides in Levittown. If you want to know more about his story you will have to catch up with him to tell his side of his story because I don’t know what made him start freestyling in the first place.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

DuHBooZeR: I came up with my name considering my first initial is D and my last name is Boos & people have called Boozer throughout my life. I have thought about D Boozer that didn’t go well then The Boozer which was okay. That turned into Thee Boozer. I asked myself who I am and answeered with, Duh! Boozer. Thee sounds D, which is my initial, drop the exclamation. there u have it. DuHBooZeR. It wasn’t intended to have all the vowels lower cased but it looked cool so I kept it.

For Seltik his name is quite simple. He has the one friend who called him simple Celtic because he was a fan of the Boston Celtics and my best guess is that’s what jersey he was wearing the first time they met. If you ever meet him and have a chance to chat; Im pretty sure he can tell more of that his story.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

DuHBooZeR: I think online music sharing is great. I just put my music out as feelers… why not share for the hell of it and see if anyone enjoys what my I’m cooking up as well as my artist cooking up for the potluck feast we are bringing to the table to share with everyone. We are here to have fun and not all about that glamour and glitz, bling bling, diamonds, forget all that. If we are successful and make the money thats great but we don’t need  all that to prove that we a success, we let the music and lyrics speak for itself. Its the positive feedback from people that take time out that lets us know if we should continue or not. Even if its not a great response we continue to be ourselves because not everyone is going to like that track and thats fine.

Welcome 2 Pencilveinya is free because its only a mixtape and we don’t have that money to pay everyone we would be getting sued by using instrumentals that aren’t ours in origin.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

DuHBooZeR: Like I mentioned earlier that I don’t consider myself an artist or anybody special. I however do think I can give some good advice to artists.

 Not everyone is going to like every song depending on your genre and how you listen to music. Keep those dreams going… there is someone out there who will enjoy something eventually. Maybe it’s just not your time yet & what you are looking to do with it. Surely it’s great making the big bucks but maybe you end up being comfortable doing the small town & short tour scene. Just try to put yourself out there and see what happens and don’t be too discouraged cause it just might not be your time as well.

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

DuHBooZeR: N/A

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

DuHBooZeR: Nope, sorry guys we never have done a show yet too many personal thing happened between the both of us to mention.

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

DuHBooZeR:I just do what I do whatever is on my mind and feel like working on at the moment. I try not to let myself get to involved in a project for an overkill of time because the more I put on it the more I will ruin it. Sometimes a little imperfection makes it better and people enjoy rough copies to show progression or how the first cut was better than the final version.

Seltik has his own way of doing things and I let him do him in his own process to accomplish what he is trying to write.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

DuHBooZeR: I don’t have an actual website but I use Soundcloud and Reverbnation currently to share my stuff through twitter.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

DuHBooZeR: I really don’t carry anything embarrassing on mp3 player because I don’t have 1. I play music on phone and if u consider that I would pick Jem – Amazing only because I have heard it and would like to try to create something from that in the future.

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

DuHBooZeR: If given a year off and half a million dollars????? HMM… 1st I probably give enough to my immediate family mother and brother whom stuck with me throughout my years so they can live comfortably for awhile. Probably give a chunk to my artist/friend and other friends n family whom helped me get back to where I am at. Some to some charities and what ever is left I will figure out how to invest and spend wisely. I really don’t know where I would go if I had a year off. I probably would say anywhere moving from coast to coast day by day or week to week. I would try not sit in 1 spot for so long and see as much as possible before this adventure or my life comes to a close

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

DuHBooZeR: I am hoping for upgrades in the next year or two. I am currently on hiatus and not doing anything but trying to find a way back into getting this off the ground again. the previous equipment was 1 mic, 1 mac 1 laptop, and pro tools and part of another program used.  I am hoping to upgrade as soon as possible to get more music and original music that I have created from scratch.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

DuHBooZeR: For me it was it dates back to myspace & imeem and thought I was pretty popular until it all changed. My information got lost in the updates, I just said forget it and hold save my stuff for something new to appear.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

DuHBooZeR: That’s a very tough question to answer that I have never pondered. You might need to come back to me with that because there are several reasons for who, where and why. I can’t decide.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

DuHBooZeR: I don’t have any projects I’m working on quite yet per say but I have stuff in mind that I would like to do. Stay tuned is all I can say

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

DuHBooZeR: Hmmmm….  Good question, I really don’t know what I would be doing because I do a lot things already that I’m skilled at. If I put mind to it and can do just about anything. I know its not really a good answer but I am just multi talented.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

DuHBooZeR: Wow! What a question to to ask me… at first I wasn’t sure what until I sat back a minute trying to always remember if asked for some bizarre reason what to answer with . My first was Buck-O-Nine  Twenty-Eight Teeth it was a ska band that wasn’t really too well known. They had a track called My Town it was catchy and so was the rest of the album. I kind of stopped listening to them after awhile growing into to tastes that just catch my ear.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

DuHBooZeR: I would say that I work on multiple projects at once and not try to perfect each one right away. Make multiples  & keep trying out versions the same track and figure out what is working and what isn’t. I also look at it as a fan’s perspective. I also take some time off to spend time with family and friends and not work to come back with a fresh perspective if something pops up in the spur of the moment that I might need to come back to.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

DuHBooZeR: I don’t really know yet what is to come or when things will happen. I only have that stuff out putting out a feel as to what people think think and choose to listen if they might. All I can say is just keep listening and sharing if you like it.
