Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

 

Jourin Hannah: I was introduced to exposed vocals when they became one of my twitter followers.

 

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Jourin Hannah: Well, I am from Richmond, Virginia.  I have been into music since I was 14 years old. I actually started playing the guitar at 17.  I didn’t really start to record professionally until I was about 20 years old back in 2010. When I discovered my capabilities for making my own music, that was when I knew I wanted to be an artist.

 

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your inspiration behind it?

 

Jourin Hannah: As an artists I just use my regular name since I do not have a band.

 

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Jourin Hannah: I think online music sharing is a good tool to use, especially when you are trying to see how people respond to it. When I do open mics in Richmond, I give away free demos because its my way of just getting my music out there.

 

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

 

Jourin Hannah: I would say that if you want to get more exposure, you have get out there and participate in things such as open mics.  That is one of the biggest ways to gain connections and exposure.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

 

Jourin Hannah: Yes I have made mistakes during performances. Usually they are so minor that I can play over it and make it sound like I did it on purpose. The worst thing you can do live is to stop playing.  if you hit a sour note, just make it sound good and keep moving.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

 

Jourin Hannah: I have not gone on tour yet, but I am working on getting some paid gigs and increasing my fan base so that one day I can.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Jourin Hannah: I gather inspiration from many different sources.  Sometimes I will hear something on TV or I will hear something in store.  As far as my song writing, a lot of times I will start with a beat and when I find a beat that sounds cool, I just build from there.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Jourin Hannah: I do not have my own website but I use Reverbnation, Soundcloud, Twitter, and Facebook.

 

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find on your mp3 player?

 

Jourin Hannah: I don’t think I have any songs that I would be embarrassed about on my ipod.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off, what would you do? How would you spend it?

 

Jourin Hannah: I would use that money to pay off my debt and promote my music even further.  I would use that time to do more performances.

 

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

 

Jourin Hannah: I currently use a music software called Mixcraft Pro Studio 7.  I have a basic irig interface I use for my guitar and a basic keyboard.  When my money gets right I will upgrade to a better guitar and better equipment in general.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Jourin Hannah: Well again I think the best way to promote yourself is to get out there and have contact with people.  Particularly at open mic events.  That is a good time to announce your music and develop connections with possible fans.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 

Jourin Hannah: I would love perform with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, BB King, Aerosmith, Butcher Babies at a large music festival because I always envisioned myself playing with a professional group in front of thousands of people.

 

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?

 

Jourin Hannah: I am currently working on getting some gigs for February and currently just working on some new material.  I am predicting that I may start getting busier in February as far as performing is concerned.

 

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

 

Jourin Hannah: If I was not into to music, I have no idea what I would be doing.  I feel that music gave a since of purpose and understanding of what I am suppose to do in life.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

 

Jourin Hannah: I remember back when I was in high school I bought a classical album by Andre Rieu who is a Violinist.  I use to into classical music more than anything else.  Even now I listen to a variety of music.  As a musician, I don’t consider myself to be any one style player.  I tend to use different styles depending on my mood.

 

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Jourin Hannah: Well Currently I am trying to find a job after being laid off from a warehouse job. Even with a job I always find time for music because my goal is to one day be a musician for a living.

 

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2016?

 

Jourin Hannah: My fans should look forward to more shows and more music. I look forward to the future and cant wait to get out there can connect with my fans.
