Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide to sign up?

Tayla Lombari: I decided to upload some songs that I have written onto Soundcloud, and a few days later I received a twitter message from Exposed Vocals asking for an interview. I was very excited to be a part of it because I am looking for all opportunities to get my music out there.

 

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?

 

Tayla Lombari: I grew up in Smithfield, Rhode Island. I was a freshman in high school when I first started learning to play the guitar. I learned by going on YouTube and mimicking different acoustic covers. I discovered passion when I started to play music. Once I started to write it took my passion even further.

 

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever give your music away for free? Why?

 

Tayla Lombari: I think online music sharing can be a great thing because too often music on the radio is overplayed so it is always nice to be able to find something new and someone under the radar that matches up with your style. I want my music to be heard, and right now online is the best way of putting it out there.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

Tayla Lombari: I am still considered a start-up now. I just recently started finding open mic nights to go to perform my songs. Still being in the beginning stages, my advice would be to take every opportunity that comes. Let everyone listen without worrying about what they’ll all think.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?

 

Tayla Lombari: Out of nerves there would be times of making mistakes. The good thing about writing your own songs is that no one knows when you mess up. Just keep going and don’t let it throw you off.

 

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

 

Tayla Lombari: No tours yet…but I’ll be looking forward to the possible chance to be able to do that one day.

 

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What is your usual songwriting process?

 

Tayla Lombari: The best inspiration comes from genuine emotions. One of the greatest things about writing is that you can take something negative and turn it into something beautiful. I also get a lot of inspiration from artists that I listen to. Ed Sheeran is a huge idol of mine and has made such an impact on me pursuing songwriting. Sometimes I will be listening to Ed and then will be immediately inspired to start something new. Usually I’ll start off with finding a unique chord progression that I like, and then I’ll start putting the words to it and seeing what flows.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you use to share your music?

 

Tayla Lombari: I am very new to this, so right now I use Soundcloud (Tayla Lombari) and YouTube (Tayla Lombari). I am going to try to get myself on as many platforms as I can.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?

 

Tayla Lombari: Using websites and social media to your advantage is the smartest way to do it. Whoever you are with, let them listen.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

 

Tayla Lombari: I would love to perform with Ed Sheeran since he has been my biggest inspiration. I have never been to Red Rocks in Colorado, so besides just going there to see a concert, I guess the dream would be to have my own.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

Tayla Lombari: Something that wouldn’t make me nearly as happy.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What was going through your head?

 

Tayla Lombari: I don’t remember buying my first album, but I remember the album that I first loved, Songs About Jane by Maroon 5. This was their first album and it still holds a very special place in my heart. I always like how the music they create has such a distinct sound. You know that as soon as it starts up, it’s Maroon 5.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while trying to stay ahead in your music life?

 

Tayla Lombari: It’s tough to make everything else a priority when all you want to do is make music. There have been times when I would skip class because I was too in the zone with my writing to get up and stop. That being said, it’s important to create a balance with all the responsibilities that you may have and to know that music will always be there.
