Brazil’s music scene may be known for beats such as bossa nova, but newer sounds are making waves on the streets.

On any given night in Caxias do Sul, music lovers young and old mill in and out of nondescript bars and cafés in Lapa, a bohemian neighborhood of 19th-century buildings with shutter-flanked windows and flowery, wrought iron balconies. Strolling amid street vendors selling caipirinhas, Rio Grande do Sul’s signature lime and cachaça drink, visitors have come in search of fresh raw musical talent.

So let’s talk about MADJR, a hot new up and coming artist from Brazil.

Through heavy music, MADJR expresses his emotions and beliefs about self love and respect. In a quest for self knowledge, MADJR has learned a lot about how and why people do the things they do. With this experience, he trespasses the conventional way of thinking to inspire people to acknowledge themselves.

Since 2009, MADJR has been experimenting with mixing genres and breaking barriers and it’s just the beginning.

Brazilian thrash metal is a regional scene of trash metal music that originated during the 1980s in Brazil. This track “breathe” is a classic example as it is still a pivotal point in heavy metal, as it bridges the gap between the thrash of the mid-1980s and the death metal scene later in the decade, as well as part of the first wave of black metal.

Exposed Vocals: How did you hear about Exposed Vocals? What made you decide

to sign up?

MADJR: One day somebody mentioned Exposed Vocals on Twitter and I decided to check it out. I was amazed at the good quality material and I felt like I could give it a shot.

Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you

decide to become an artist?

MADJR: I grew up in a city called Caxias do Sul in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Some bad things happened to me when I was younger and that made me develop low self-esteem.

As time passed I discovered the best way to fight it was by getting to know myself better. At that point I felt like I could become someone who people could look up to. And that’s what I did. I started this amazing journey in a search for more knowledge and awareness.

Exposed Vocals: How did you come up with that name? What was your

inspiration behind it?

MADJR: I thought I should choose a name that could define me. What’s better at defining myself than my own name? So I picked MADJR

because it’s the initials of my name, which is Marco Antônio Dall’Igna Júnior.

Exposed Vocals: What do you think about online music sharing? Do you ever

give your music away for free? Why?

MADJR: Yeah, sometimes I give my music away for free. I do it because I feel like my music should be something everyone can have access to. One way to do it, is with online streaming. But, sometimes, people need that extra download to carry that song wherever they go. And I understand that.

Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any

smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?

MADJR: My best tip to anyone is: Be yourself! Don’t do what others think is “cool” or anything to be “accepted”. Always do things because you want to, not because you feel you need to.

Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you

handle that?

MADJR: Yes! I do make mistakes on stage. But that’s what makes it perfect! I don’t care if I screw up a little bit, that just shows that I’m authentic and doing the best I can to have fun with my fans.

Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you

think our readers would enjoy hearing about?

MADJR: I haven’t toured yet. But I’m willing to do it in a next future!

Exposed Vocals: Where do you usually gather songwriting inspiration? What

is your usual songwriting process?

MADJR: I don’t actually have a strict process. My inspiration can come from anything, anywhere! I’m always thinking philosophically about life and just a simple thought can later on make a new song.

Exposed Vocals: Do you have a band website? What online platforms do you

use to share your music?

MADJR: Yes, I do have a website. It’s marcoadjr.wix.com/madjr . I mostly use YouTube, ReverbNation, Twitter, Facebook and SoundCloud to share my music.

Exposed Vocals: What are some really embarrassing songs that we might find

on your mp3 player?

MADJR: I wouldn’t say it’s embarrassing but its rather an unusual song for me to listen to. It’s Lollipop by Lil Wayne. I mean, that guy shreds, right? Haha

Exposed Vocals: If you were given half a million dollars and a year off,

what would you do? How would you spend it?

MADJR: I would definitely upgrade my studio and spend the extra money on new games. Yeah, I’d be playing video-games all day long.

Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?

MADJR: Definitely! I’m looking forward to getting new amps, new guitars/basses and new mics. I’m currently working with a basic but trust-worthy setup.

Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best

for you?

MADJR: I think the easiest way to promote music is to get creative with social media. You can never go wrong with that.

Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or

Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?

MADJR: I’d really like to perform at Warped Tour. It would be amazing. Along with bands like Blessthefall, We Came As Romans, Chelsea Grin, Asking Alexandria, Volumes, Veil of Maya and so on. I’d choose them because they’re the bands I grew up listening to and it would be awesome to perform with them.

Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to

talk about?

MADJR: Yes! I’m planning a whole new album for the end of 2015. Soon, I’ll be entering the studio to start the recording process.

Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?

MADJR: I would, probably, be trying to make music. Or I would be playing video-games all day long. Or I would be a scientist, maybe even an actor. There’s so many possibilities.

Exposed Vocals: Do you remember buying your first album? Who was it? What

was going through your head?

MADJR: It was a Backstreet Boys album. I was like 8 years old at the time. I was such a huge fan of those guys.

Exposed Vocals: How do you juggle the rest of your responsibilities while

trying to stay ahead in your music life?

MADJR: Oh, that’s tough. My last album is called “Decisions” because I’m not a big fan of those. I’m glad everyone I love, gradually got used to me being really focused on my career and I’m finally getting some equilibrium in that aspect.

Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in 2015?

MADJR: They should definitely look forward to my new album, that is going to be released towards the end of this year. They should, also, keep track to my social media for updates on that subject.
