Some duos are built in studios. Tears of Happiness was built in the wreckage of real life. The UK pop duo of vocalist Bally and producer Leon (LCamz) — whose debut was playlisted by Nike, charted in Luxembourg, and landed on Spotify’s official charts alongside Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith — makes music that doesn’t flinch. Their sound sits at the intersection of emotional honesty and infectious production, and their new single “THE ONE” — written in 30 minutes from a single synth wave pattern — is their most urgent and uplifting work yet. Now with BBC Introducing airplay and eight new singles already recorded, Tears of Happiness are showing no signs of slowing down. We caught up with Bally to talk about healing, responsibility, and what it feels like to punch the air while crying your eyes out.
“THE ONE” was written in 30 minutes but packed with meaning. Can you walk us through how that moment of inspiration unfolded?
Tears of Happiness
We didn’t set out to write a song but were just playing around with a strong synth wave pattern… and BANG! The chorus melody came to me first. Producer LCamz spotted how strong it was and said lay it down straight away just so we don’t forget it.
Your music blends emotional honesty with uplifting production. How do you strike that balance when you’re creating?
Tears of Happiness
We just pour our hearts out and as empaths we care about ourselves and care about others. I’m hoping our music heals.
Bally, music became a lifeline during a really tough personal period. How has your mental health journey influenced your songwriting process today?
Bally
Talking, writing, expressing is part of the healing process. And writing songs helps me as well as others heal and feel better about ourselves. Most people who like our music have said they can really relate to the songs. They are not just commercial pop tunes but meaningful, healing messages.
Leon, your production has earned praise from Abbey Road’s Geoff Pesche — how has your sound evolved, especially while working remotely?
Leon (LCamz)
I believe the confidence we’ve gained from a small fan base that love what we create has really matured the sound and aligned it with some of the biggest artists on the planet. Who would ever have guessed that one of our releases “Lift Me Up” would have featured in the Spotify official charts alongside Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Camila Cabello and more.
Tears of Happiness was born out of vulnerability — how does that foundation continue to shape your creative collaboration?
Tears of Happiness
The glass is no longer half empty. It is now half full.
“Songs which will have you punching the air while crying your eyes out” — how do you hope listeners feel after hearing your music?
Tears of Happiness
Exactly the same as the quote above. And the reason why is as writers we are the first to go through those emotions when writing.
From Nike playlisting your debut to charting in Luxembourg, you’ve seen big wins as independent artists. What’s been the most surreal moment so far?
Tears of Happiness
I think recent airplay from BBC Introducing on the current single “THE ONE” has been the most surreal moment. It can be so hard to get airplay on BBC Introducing — I’ve been trying for years!
How do real-life stories — whether your own or from friends — find their way into your lyrics?
Bally
All real life stories end up in my songs as I sense everyone’s pain, heartache and misery. I feel it is then my job to transform it into music that heals that pain.
With such an emotionally grounded message, do you feel a sense of responsibility to your listeners?
Tears of Happiness
Absolutely. I want our songs to be very real and not anything artificial or meaningless.
What’s next for Tears of Happiness? Can we expect more music, live shows, or new directions?
Tears of Happiness
Currently nothing live is planned but we’ve recorded eight singles ready to go. We are currently working on a track called “Live Forever” which is a slight departure from our usual stuff — but I think it could quite easily be our best song yet. Let’s see how it ends up as I’d love that to be our next track.
