“Dead Beggar” was the first song we wrote in the writing sessions for our upcoming album Listen”, said Siren Singer Rob Phillips. “It became our Game of Thrones song, as it typifies the establishment versus the people. In our take, the people win for a change and it’s about time!”
“We recorded and mixed at Madison Studios in Atlanta, working with engineer Wyatt Oates. We also had a new guitar player Tanner Hendon, who came in and immediately provided the right feel and energy we were looking for”, exclaimed Phillips.
“Once the song was finished, Video Producer Isaac Deitz (Manchester Orchestra, Grouplove, Switchfoot) who created the concept and vision for the video. Filmed in Florida and Atlanta, Isaac’s powerful imagery really took the song to another level and I believe the video is our best to date. We can put a bow on this one!”
According to Deitz, “Dead Beggar” explores the stark divide, on one side, there’s the constant struggle for survival, and on the other, a hollow pursuit of connection and joy. The rich man’s “Ivory Tower” symbolizes not just his material wealth but the physical and emotional distance he maintains from the everyday lives of those who walk the city streets below”.
“In the song’s haunting narrative, the rich man’s happiness depends on the misery of others—he views the happiness of a child as a threat to his own fragile sense of fulfillment. The song portrays a world where power suffocates the possibility of shared joy, highlighting the dark irony of wealth’s isolating nature.”
