Tory Lanez Officially Charged in Megan Thee Stallion Shooting
Los Angeles, CA – Nearly three months after the now-infamous incident in the Hollywood Hills that left Megan Thee Stallion shot in both feet, Tory Lanez has officially been charged with felony assault by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The Canadian rapper-singer, born Daystar Peterson, faces two felony counts:
- Assault with a semiautomatic firearm
- Carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle
According to prosecutors, Lanez is accused of inflicting great bodily injury during an argument as the pair left a party hosted by Kylie Jenner in July. The charges state that Lanez “personally inflicted great bodily injury” by shooting Megan as she attempted to walk away.
This official filing marks a critical turning point in a case that, until now, had been clouded by rumor, silence, and online toxicity. In August, Megan publicly confirmed Lanez was the shooter in an Instagram Live session, saying:
“Yes… Tory shot me. You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lying and s***.”
Since then, Lanez has maintained his innocence — cryptically at first, and then through the release of his surprise album DAYSTAR, where he denied shooting Megan and questioned the public narrative. Critics slammed the project as insensitive and exploitative, while some fans continued to express doubt about the events of that night.
But with the filing of criminal charges today, the conversation shifts from speculation to legal reality.
If convicted, Lanez faces a maximum sentence of 22 years and 8 months in state prison.
Lanez is scheduled to be arraigned on October 13. He has not been arrested on the new charges as of publication time, but his legal team is expected to respond in court next week.
Megan, meanwhile, has remained focused on her music, activism, and healing — continuing to speak out against the erasure of Black women’s trauma and the culture of disbelief she’s been forced to navigate.
Editorial Note from Exposed Vocals
As this case moves into the courtroom, we remind readers that Tory Lanez is presumed innocent until proven guilty. At the same time, Megan Thee Stallion’s account — which she has risked public ridicule to stand by — deserves to be heard with respect. This is not just a celebrity case. It’s a reflection of how we treat women, especially Black women, in moments of crisis.
