Head-Cage – Refuse Me
Like an epidemic from Sydney Australia comes the sound of raw emotion and struggle. “Being an Australian band has its draw backs. If you don’t sound like the coоkie cutter mold than you are forgotten about” states Lee. Limited resources and an ignorant scene make for some interesting results when it comes to a hybrid sound of melody and power.
Their twisted sometimes incestuous roots trail back to when Mark and Lee shared time in numerous bands and projects where alot of the ground work was laid. Alot of time, money and demos were traded among the Sydney scene and a few allegiances were made. Gary has constantly been writing, melding various influences to support his addiction to melody and groove. He and Walt had played in a previous band which disolved only to see the birth of new inspiration with the two collaborating once again to find result in response to their ad…. “Looking for like minded people to infect a large population”
“There is meaning to everything we do” adds Mark. The CAGE represents the defensive and the protection of these ideals. In todays world where all ideas are stripped of originality and human emotion and are replaced by power and human greed. “A defence system is all we can maintain to protect ourselves against religion, government and the vultures of everyday life.”
During the recording of “sans divine” HC came upon the anniversary of the horror that was September 11, on this day “Breathe” was recorded and instead of hatred and revenge came sympathy and sorrow with the line “I can not comprehend what you’re going through right now”. “It was an emotional time for all of us the night when Mark laid down the vocals for that song, I remember thinking that no matter who you were or where you were living on that day, your life changed and maybe it wasn’t for the better.”
