Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in Melbourne Australia to Italian born parents who migrated to Australia in the mid-60's. From 5 years old I discovered I had a natural ability with music and to sing specifically and so began singing along to my older sister's records like Abba and to songs on the radio and that is how I basically developed my voice. I never received any vocal or piano tuition at all as I come from a non-musical family so there weren't any instruments around the house but my parents loved music and listening to the radio. In fact, my mother used to sing when she was younger whilst working on the family vineyard. She often tells me that she would have become a singer herself if she had had the opportunity. So, I guess you can say that music chose me!
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Start playing at some open mics around your area like pubs/hotels e.t.c. Also, contact some community radio stations wherever you live or even play at your friend's birthday parties, anything to get your foot in the door.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Sometimes I forget lyrics which is a little embarrassing so what I do is have my lyrics with me which doesn't look professional at all so I just laugh and continue.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
No not yet I'm just starting at small cafes/pubs, hotels and then will do a few shows interstate and then hopefully overseas.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I usually record in a studio with a producer friend of mine who has a professional home studio setup and he uses cubase to produce my tracks. I'm also learning protools, logic and ableton myself through youtube videos.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I promote through all the social media outlets(fb,twitter, instagram) but also do open mics and promote to the general public that way. I also use reverbnation and put my page link on my instagram page. I think open mics are the better way as you're dealing with everyday people and they tell me that the love my music which is great so I get instant feedback that way.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I would love to perform in London Hyde Park or New York in Times Square with Madonna as she's been my idol from the very beginning and Prince would have been another one I would have loved to have met him and worked with.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
I am currently writing new material trying to write in a different genre this time.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
I would be working in tv/film as an actor.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
More great music and more gigs.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
I would like to say thankyou to all the fans here in Australia but overseas as well who have supported my music and enjoyed it. I would also like to thank my family and friends for supporting me in this journey. Also a big thankyou to you guys from Exposed Vocals for this opportunity!
