Berkeley rising star Rexx Life Raj recently released his latest album ‘Father Figure 2: Flourish’ and shared a new video for the lead single “2Free.”

Rexx Life Raj is one of the most intriguing artists out of California these days. The former Boise State football player has become one of the most versatile vocalists out and recently release his sophomore album “Father Figure 2 : Flourish”, which dropped November 17.

Additionally, Raj came correct with a new set of visuals off the forthcoming project. “2Free” finds the Bay-area emcee at his most carefree, Raj can’t be bothered while getting wavy on Oakland’s Lake Merrit while reciting the infectious chorus “I do me. They be talking I ain’t trippin I’m 2free”

On the new song, Raj meditates on how far he’s come in the past year and the video finds him rowing around Oakland’s Lake Merritt, a popular gathering place for the city’s residents:

“Shooting at the lake was significant because sometimes I find my self floating through my mind, on an undersized children’s canoe, in an ocean of irregular thought, which is probably why a lot of people think I’m irregular like that one time in 4th grade when we took a field-trip to the petting zoo, and I had an intense 11-minute conversation with a goat named Jezebel who told me that Jezebel was a slave name given to her by her captures, and her real name was Matilda of The Green Hills, and that if I kept writing I would eventually understand the true meaning of being a GOAT.. I wanted to bring this into the physical realm which is why we shot at Lake Merritt.”

In just a year after the 2016 deubt release of “Father Figure” Rexx Life Raj has displayed tremendous, inspiring growth and is topping off a hell of a year with “Father Figure 2 : Flourish”

In this new album, the theme is flourishing, which seems to have been the theme for Raj’s year. “To me it’s about growth and trying to be all that you can be. You know as cliché as that sounds,” Raj shared. “It’s really more about growth than anything. This year has taught me more than anything about persevering through will power – the power of being persistent and the power to keep going. That’s what is most evident in this project. You just see that growth from me. It’s not just my growth sonically but also my growth as a person. It’s more evident in what I’m saying, how I’m delivering it.”

Raj’s talent built him a buzz that has seen him collaborate with and garner cosigns from artists such as Pharrel, Russ, G-Eazy, Scott Storch, and Goapele. Furthermore, Raj’s music has earned him accolades from press outlets such as Pitchfork, FADER, Noisey, HotNewHipHop, DJBooth, TeamBackPack, GoodMusicAllDay, Berkelyside and more.
