[Review] Gregory D And Company – More Than A Conqueror Single
There’s beautifully delicate sound to this song that beings with the leading artist’s voice, smooth and gentle in expression, and continues with the subtle yet effective build up of the instrumentation and the additional, echoing vocal parts. The song seems much bigger than it is even during those first few moments when there’s merely a piano and a voice, so as things intensify the effect is huge.
The structure of the song is quite unusual, the echoed voices follow the melody and remind you of this – each lyrical moment is fairly short and to the point, so you hear this same melody going around and around as the music grows around it. There’s an undeniable level of passion to the performances, and the song on the whole has something of a 90’s soul or r&b ballad sound to it.
From a songwriting perspective that structure I suppose adds a distinct level of character, though a little more space or variation between sections can help add impact, in this case though the rising intensity works in favour of impact and that individuality, that sense of character is definitely important. Furthermore – the way this particular topic has been approached is quite unique. The perspective is uncommon, there’s a sense of power and overcoming to the whole thing – this is in the chords chosen, the melody, and the soulful performances. The song comes through as uplifting, and hopefully this power and this possibility and this sense of overcoming will pass on to those who listen and inspire them or incite hope in them. Everything has been performed beautifully and the overall sound produced to a level that lets everything shine as brightly as it should.
