Exposed Vocals just caught an Exclusive Interview with Osvaldo Paese
I am a singer songwriter from the Chicago area. I have written over 400 songs, most of which can be heard on my youtube channel. I am 30 years old and I have 3 albums for sale on amazon, itunes and google play. Most would say I play some sort of folk rock but I also mix in some instrumental music in there as well. I like to consider myself very diverse. I don’t like writing about romance all the time. My song topics are all over the place.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
Osvaldo: I grew up 30 minutes from downtown Chicago. My parents are from Italy. At a young age, I was into drawing, cartoons and classics. But slowly I got more into music more around 5th grade and soon began playing guitar. It came naturally to me where as other things in life hadn’t.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
Osvaldo: Be friendly. Don’t discriminate and keep writing.
Exposed Vocals: Do you ever make mistakes during performances? How do you handle that?
Osvaldo: Quite often. Sometimes it messes me up, other times it makes me work harder next time.
Exposed Vocals: Do you tour? Anything interesting happen on tour that you think our readers would enjoy hearing about?
Osvaldo: I have yet to go on a long tour, only weekend excursions. My friend and I hit a deer on the way to a gig. Or rather the deer hit us. It was terrifying. Still ended up playing the gig though.
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
Osvaldo: I like to keep it simple. When you think about the tech they were using in the 50s and the great sounds they got, there isn’t much need to spend 100k on new tech. Thats my 2 cents.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
Osvaldo: I enjoy going out and networking with people online and offline. That seems to help me a little.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
Osvaldo: Mozart, Leonard Cohen, John Cale, David Bowie, Wilco. Venue would be some kind of theatre, maybe Carnegie Hall. I love NY. Why? Because it would be a great time.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
Osvaldo: I have so many songs that I only have acoustic versions of on my youtube channel that I would like to record with more instruments. I am taking them a song at a time. I post fairly often so keep an ear out.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Osvaldo: Spontaneously combusting.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
Osvaldo: A new album. Many more music videos on youtube and more collaborations. And probably a few shows.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
Osvaldo: Yes, check out Ken Markovic, The Gold Web, Ron Haselden, Bellwether Blues, The New Sex And Drugs. These are some of the best local bands that I have seen and know personally.
