The main vocal on Des Cox’s new record ‘In My Day’ is the same as was performed and recorded live on the cruise ship the QE2, so recording was pretty basic with none of the modern day technical marvels. Although it is that same live vocal without any gimmicks, the recording places emphasis on the song and its humor, a combination that Des really hopes will now be heard all over the world.
His ultimate dream is to see the world to become a nicer, better and more enjoyable place. And so with any luck this song will go globally and make his dream of replacing all the doom and gloom with fun and laughter and those all-important smiles to people all over the world, regardless of race, religion background or whatever, for he really wants us all to be, well… happy!
“And before they do, there’s no point in all the snowflakes and moaners reaching for their Twitter buttons because the person I am making fun of most of all is… Myself!”- Des Cox
Today, Des Cox is a successful television writer and producer, having spent best part of his working life in show business. Des went away to sea as a young boy and became the youngest officer in the British Merchant Navy. He left the sea in the early 1960s for a future in show business, signing to the then biggest record label in the world, EMI Records. He released several records and appeared in cabaret, concerts, radio and television all over the world. It was whilst performing on a television show that he was recruited to star in the top-rated television series, “Candid Camera”. “Candid Camera” was the world’s first reality TV show and compulsive viewing for millions of people all around the world. To make the series work required coming up with an endless stream of hilarious stunts, which as well performing them, was something Des excelled at and many of the best stunts seen all over the world came from Des’s pen. In between recording this series, Des took to the road as a Stand-Up Comedian, working in London’s Theatre Land but also in the UK’s notorious Northern Workingman’s clubs, which were some of the world’s most difficult venues, clubs where many even famous comedy acts died agonizing deaths. Comedians had literally seconds from walking on stage, to make an audience laugh and if they didn’t, then a barrage of empty bottles would be hurled at them by the drunken audiences. Des jokes: that he earned far more money on returning all the empty bottles to the suppliers, than he ever got paid by concert promoters! Des was fortunate that he could ad-lib, which always enabled him to win the audiences over and to get them laughing. It would take too long to detail even in brief, the things he has done in life, ranging from acting in feature films including a feature with The Beach boys, which he wrote and co-starred in, going to Hollywood to co-produce the world’s top television rock series “Super Stars of Rock”. He represented top American Music Company Acuff Rose for Europe and in doing so looked after many big stars including Tom Jones, The Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Rolling Stones, Kinks and many, many more, promoting them in concerts and cabaret all over the world. He has created the characters and written the stories for two major Children’s Television series, The Bubblies and Tugs, which have been broadcast and exploited (merchandised) in a major way in over 100 countries around the world. Des is still heavily involved in TV production, having just completed a major new documentary TV series titled The Great Liners, consisting of 47 episodes telling the history of modern-day shipping including the previously secret story of the WW2 “Arctic Convoys” to Russia. He is currently working on creating his own TV Channel, featuring programmes that are original in format, extremely funny, including bringing back Candid Camera, producing a new television cookery series and a comedy titled “In My Day” and international music rock shows. However, Des cannot stay away from the thing that is perhaps the most natural thing to him, comedy. So, whenever time allows, he still does standup comedy in night clubs and aboard cruise ships.
