Base Aura – 4am In Rucker Park “Calabasas Freestyle”
This track surrounds you, immediately with a wall of lyricism that is part amazing, classic, nostalgic, and genuinely a hot-ass free-style.
“Keep your mind on your money / get back to your movement”
There aren’t too many rappers around these days who simply rap for the love of hip-hop and the depth of the ideas behind it. but, Base Aura offers an ocean of good vibes with this latest release.
The concept is also something that’s easy to grasp and relate to, so commercially the free-style is probably greatly appealing, then you get people hooked with the melody and the sound of his voice, and you’re onto a winner. There’s a distinct sound of the 90’s or early 2000’s in this track, his flow reminds me of Method Man – which is a good thing – the days when I would just vibe out and listen to Tical all day; yet it’s fused with a fairly organic and real sounding scene. He also has a calmness to it that is really appropriate, there’s a huge amount of personality to the voice, but it’s presented in a very cool and confident sort of way. It brings about a certain level of nostalgia as you listen, but for the most part the creativity in terms of the musical backdrop is clear and inventive. The music doesn’t just roll out on a loop, it builds up, drops out, stretches, sits, intermittently throughout the track
I give it 8.5 out of 10 – Keep it up and I’m looking forward to listening to more music from this extremely talented artist.
