Exposed Vocals just caught an exclusive interview with Meseus
I am an up and coming Rap/Pop Artist from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I’m 17 years old, have only released one song, and currently working on more. I’d like to let everybody know that I understand my work isn’t quite at an amazing level right now, but this is only my first song and it will get much better than this.
Exposed Vocals: So tell us your story. Where did you grow up? What made you decide to become an artist?
I grew up in the middle class my whole life, moved schools a couple times and moved cities once. I was always extremely privileged so breaking into the rap scene will be quite difficult for me. I became an artist for the sole reason of trying to make a difference in the world, as so many artists have. I know it sounds cliché and cheesy to say it, but I recently figured out in my life that money means absolutely nothing at all, and that your not here to take from the world, your here to give. At least that’s what I decided the purpose of life is.
Exposed Vocals: Since everyone was a start-up once, can you give any smaller or local bands or artists looking to get gigs and airplay some tips?
(I am currently a start up)
Exposed Vocals: Any planned studio upgrades? What are you working with now?
I started recording with a guy I found on kijiji, I went I didn’t have enough money for a “real” studio so I had to improvise. I’ve always been a big time loner and introvert so the idea of having a soundproofed basement with a full studio to myself has always excited me, I hope that one day I will be able to have that.
Exposed Vocals: How do you find ways to promote your music? What works best for you?
I’m the super typical comment section rapper at the moment, I find it extremely difficult to get people to trust me when they find me in a comment section, so my views are quite low. Despite my views being low my rate of likes to dislikes isn’t terrible and it seems most people like my music not for the song itself, but for the potential they believe I have.
Exposed Vocals: If you could perform anywhere and with any artists (Dead or Alive) where and who would it be with? Why?
I would want to perform with Kid Cudi no doubt, literally in an alleyway or a bar somewhere I couldn’t care less. Kid Cudi is my ultimate inspiration and I look to his music for advice not only about art, but just life in general, he has helped develop me into a much better person then I ever was and performing with him would be a dream come true.
Exposed Vocals: So, what’s next? Any new upcoming projects that you want to talk about?
No bigtime projects at the moment, like an album or anything, right now I’m just focused on improving my vibe as an artist and will be constantly releasing singles until I feel I’m at the level where the potential and talent that I know I have will shine through in my music.
Exposed Vocals: If you weren’t making music, what would you be doing?
Well the only other thing I ever planned on doing was joining the army, I never worked hard in school because of a complete lack of interest, and I was at a point in my life where the only thing I could do that was of any worth was to serve my country. I am so happy I was able to find art because for the first time in my life I can look ahead at my life and be excited.
Exposed Vocals: What should fans look forward to in the next year or so?
In the next year or so they can expect me to grow significantly as an artist, I have already “found my voice” but I haven’t quite been able to find the vibe that my voice works best with, I will work to make my lyricism a little less “cringy” but keep the positivity in my songs going, because that is who I am.
Exposed Vocals: Any Shout-outs?
No shout-outs at all, I think it’s best I let people know I don’t have a single friend in the world, I only have my family.
