Yellowcard Returns to Alternative Airplay Chart After Nearly 19 Years with ‘Better Days’
Guess who’s back on the scene after almost two decades away? That’s right, it’s Yellowcard, and they’re making waves on the Billboard airplay chart once again.
Their lead single “Better Days” from the upcoming album of the same name has stormed in at No. 33 on the Alternative Airplay chart dated June 14. This marks the first time the Ryan Key-fronted band has appeared on any airplay ranking since 2007 when “Light Up the Sky” hit No. 32 on Adult Pop Airplay.
Yellowcard’s return to the Alternative Airplay chart is a long time coming, with their last appearance dating back to 2006 when “Rough Landing, Holly” reached its peak at No. 27.
Breaking an impressive 18-year, 10-month, and three-week hiatus from Alternative Airplay, Yellowcard now holds the sixth-longest gap between chart appearances in its 37-year history. But they’re not alone in making a comeback after a lengthy break – Debbie Harry holds the record with a whopping 28 years, 10 months, and two weeks between her 1990 hit “Kiss It Better” and her feature on Just Loud’s “Soul Train” in 2018.
Yellowcard’s first taste of success on the Alternative Airplay chart came in 2003 with “Way Away” reaching No. 25, and their highest-ranking hit to date is “Lights and Sounds” at No. 4 in 2006.
And the good news doesn’t stop there – “Better Days” also debuted at No. 44 on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 672,000 audience impressions in the week ending June 5. Looks like Yellowcard is back with a bang and ready to reclaim their spot in the music scene.
Their album “Better Days” is set to drop on October 10, marking their first full-length release since their 2016 self-titled LP, which reached No. 28 on the Billboard 200.
Yellowcard’s resurgence is a testament to their enduring sound and the loyalty of their fans. Stay tuned for more from this iconic band as they continue to make their mark in the music world.
