LYRICS
Lady Primrose led me down her path
We were exploring Pleasure Drive
Lady Primrose led me down her path
Who would have thought I’d survive?
I didn’t give a damn
Where this road would end
Cause she was the ride of my life
I just got out of prison looking for a reason
Trying to catch a ride, man my eyes got wide
Behind the wheel sat for real my old friend Bill
He looked like a wreck and he said
Man, can you believe I was so naïve
One night I met a lady I can’t get out of my head
Lady Primrose led me down her path
We were exploring Pleasure Drive
Lady Primrose led me down her path
Who would have thought I’d survive?
I didn’t give a damn where this road would end
‘Cause she was the ride of my life
He started to unveil one hell of a tale
She was a beauty but also kind of moody
Her sex appeal was cold as steel, couldn’t be real
While Bill got lost in his dream my eyes began to gleam
With the key to her heart, she’s gonna drop her guard
To find her someday, I got on my way, still hearing him say
Lady Primrose led me down her path
We were exploring Pleasure Drive
Lady Primrose led me down her path
Who would have thought I’d survive?
I didn’t give a damn, where this road would end
‘Cause she was the ride of my life
When I finally got to her she couldn’t cast her spell
‘Cause unlike Bill I’ve already been through hell
So I teased her with the words I knew so well
Mmm Mmm Mmm
Lady Primrose lead me down your path
Let’s explore Pleasure Drive
Lady Primrose lead me down your path
I know I’m going to survive
I don’t give a damn, where this road will end
I want you to be the ride
I want you to be the ride
I want you to be the ride of my life
PRESS NOTE
Top-class country duet: Lady Primrose lures everyone down her path
Starting with roaring engines and a haunting guitar riff, the song is like a wild ride through a story based on the phrase “to lead someone down the primrose path”, an expression for a very pleasant path to self-destruction.
“(The Tale of) Lady Primrose” is the first song Marc Miner and I wrote together, about five years ago,” B.B. Cole recalls. “I stumbled across the phrase “to lead someone down the primrose path” one day and thought to myself, what if Lady Primrose was a person and lured someone down her path? That’s how the first idea for the song came about,” says the artist. “Finally, we thought that it would be quite funny if you didn’t know exactly whether Lady Primrose was a car or a woman. So we wrote ambiguous lyrics,” adds Marc Miner.
“(The Tale of) Lady Primrose” is the third single from the upcoming album by country-soul singer-songwriter B.B. Cole, who was nominated for Female Singer of the Year by the Austrian Country Music Federation in 2023 and 2024. “The album is dedicated to love and loss in 12 songs,” she explains. “Listeners will encounter strong protagonists who have been through a lot, as well as beautiful stories of heartbreak.” Musically, the album is very diverse, sometimes a little bluesy, sometimes a little soulful and gospel, a touch of Tex-Mex – but always with detailed lyrics and a distinctive voice that interprets the stories with both strength and emotion.
