“you get a glimpse of the character behind the lyrics” Twee-Ze and CandaceK – Carolina Schemin’ Official Video
The most notable thing about this track is the personality that comes through with each and every line. The vocal performances have character, and the opening vocal chorus – the harmonies and the overall melody of this section – is one that has a lot about it that is definitely original. The sung section seems a little frequent, or the verses a little short, maybe, but it’s a structure that does start to become familiar as the song progresses. The melody would perhaps have more impact if it were shorter, just included as a flicker every now and then, not taking too much away from the verses or the ideas or the music surrounding it. As mentioned though, there’s a sincere level of character to the track, and this includes the chorus, the choir like sound, and even the instrumentation.
The way the track has been crafted has something of an early hip-hop vibe to it – the samples used, the haunting sound of the gentle riff playing throughout – there’s a mid-nineties vibe to the musical backdrop, but again this is something that gets a little overshadowed by the melody section. However, it’s important to hold on to that originality, and for fans of those involved; the melodic hook is exactly the part that would make for a great moment at live shows – the moment when everyone jumps in and helps fill up the room with sound. The sound of the rap vocals between chorus sections has an equal amount of character, and what’s great about this sound is that it feels a lot more personal than the hook – you get a glimpse of the character behind the lyrics, the vocal tones and the personal performance style shine brightly in these somewhat stripped back, minimal sections, and that’s something audiences will be able to relate to.
