‘TRUDY’- Hotline Bling ‘Remix’ Exposed Vocals Music Review.
Trudy is an unsigned indie recording artist and vocalist. She has a talent for being extremely versatile and extraordinarily creative. By frequently alternating and accentuating natural accent, (in Patois), then switching to a Western pattern or without an accent…
Difficult to accomplish while singing. A feat much easier to do while rapping or talking unless, you’re from the West Indies and grew up in North America. However, this artist takes accentuating vocals to a whole new level. By utilizing a combination of the ‘Mambo Rhythm’; for uniqueness, Patois; the national Jamaican accent, and in this song, a voice synthesizer; to enhance the effect of robotic motion, (programmed) introduces a new sound to 2016.
Put this all together, with a dynamic interest in teaching a lesson and a exercising a profound statement of telling a familiar story. One of Love and Loss. Moreover, of protecting ones heart from disaster.
The track opens with a subtle programmed ‘Mambo Rhythm’ which is an ‘untapped’ area rarely used for western-indie music, hip-hop and pop… Followed by keyboard synths accents, in ‘half-step’ tones and melodies. With a host of other musical instruments added to give the track a New Age Flare… Definitely a grand and undoubtedly bold exploration into untapped options in the making of great music!
The story-line behind the lyrics to the song is a warning to women;
” Don’t waste your time…”
An explanation as to what a women loses when in love. Usually everything she has and yet will still “…hold on…” The artist uses a familiar lyric
“Hold on to your love…”
I recall from Envogue, the infamous singing quartet from the 80’s. Nevertheless, Trudy has made the verses her own in this motivational thought altering track. While listening to the track there were many situations mentioned that women ‘habitually’ attempt for their men and never expecting anything but love in return. However, the problem is that anything but love is returned…
Abuse is mentioned, infidelity and other such topics are covered in this tune. The verses in Patois are as meaningful as they are truthful. The voice synthesizer is a pleasing effect as I have found it rarely used by women vocalist in general. A creative and bold touch. The track lasts a little over four minutes and there is a break at the end of the track that kind of makes you think the song is over then the beat comes back in for the remaining duration of the track. Trudy is making her mark in the new up-and-coming Indie Artist category and apparently there is a lot more music in store for her fans. I enjoyed listening to this track because I can actually relate to the story-line. I’m sure many other women will as well.
