The music has a peaceful yet dark kind of sound to it – “Walking Check” by KD Young Cocky
The ambiance set by this track has a pretty stylish feel to it – there’s a classic r&b meets hip-hop vibe to the vocal style, the effects used, and the performance style in general, but there’s an edge to it that helps veer the whole thing away from being a cliché. The concept itself is fresh, and the musical backdrop plays a big part in this as well. The music has a peaceful yet dark kind of sound to it, there’s a trip-hop or dreamlike atmosphere behind the vocals, and fortunately this helps the track shine more brightly throughout.
The vocal effect that’s been used, the auto-tune style, technological sort of sound, is becoming a little overused in modern music. Having said that, it does fit in with the track on some level. With the concept being so unusual it would be more interesting to hear the artist a little more vocally exposed – this would give listeners a sense of character, someone they can relate to, a voice they can familiarise with. The lyrics have an element of intrigue to them and that’s a brilliant thing to achieve within song writing, the artist could take this even further and add something new and personal to the performance that would really step things up.
It’s an enjoyable track, really well produced, well structured, just about the right length to keep listeners involved from start to finish. Hopefully there’s more to come from this artist that lets you learn a little more about them. It’s a well crafted and mellow piece of music that is really easy to chill out to, so for the most part everything is just as it should be, but there is definitely something very new about this – pushing the creative freedom even further would hopefully bring about something extraordinary.
