The Hammer May Fall by Anders Jensen review
Anders Jensen is a songwriter hailing from Germany whose interest is purely in songwriting only, rather than performing. He has written over fifty songs for his production company Mochtegern Music, which he hopes will be used by performing artists/singers. He regards his influences as classic rock, UK bands like Keane and Coldplay plus US bands Lifehouse and Jimmy Eat World.
This song, The Hammer May Fall, is an uptempo pop song that shows Anders gift for a catchy melody. The structure is quite unusual in that there is no obvious chorus, but a long verse which is repeated. The vocal melody soon latches in your head though, so it is almost like the whole song is a chorus.
After three verses there is another section, with a similar melody. Lyrically, it is about someone living the high life in a carefree manner and selfishly doing so at the expense of others: ‘Life offers me easy treats, I don’t care for the cheaper seats….I just want to have a ball, not worried the hammer may fall….‘.
Overall, this is a finely crafted pop song that showcases Anders’ songwriting abilities and could be offered to a wide range of artists. It could also be produced in varying styles, and I’m sure Anders will find that it’s just a matter of time before one of his many songs become a hit for someone.
