The End by Young Swag review
Young Swag is a rap artist hailing from Mississippi but now based in Atlanta, Georgiaand has been rapping since the age of 14, when he started with his cousins. What started as a hobby soon became serious and that certainly shows because he already sounds like a master of his craft. In fact, his delivery is so smooth that it rivals Busta Rhymes for sheer speed and flow. His aim is to ‘take over the world’ so ambition is not lacking.
The track The End is a good showcase for his abilities. Whilst the rhymes come thick and fast, the actual track is set at a languid pace, starting with just a finger click and a synth sound that resembles a harmonica. As with many hip hop tracks it starts with the vocal hook, though unusually we don’t hear this hook again until near the end of the track. It sets the tone nicely though, the subject being the end of a relationship.
A slinky beat then kicks in, featuring some vibe-setting exotic percussion and Swag spins his take of love gone awry, defending himself against accusations of cheating in eloquent style: ‘Do you get it? Cos I’m with it..I’m not trying to argue, let me finish, I’m trying to figure are you really quitting cos you buried me for doing something that I really didn’t?’
Young Swag has the credentials and potentials to cut a swath through the rap scene and make a big impact, he just needs a strong album with two or three killer tracks to take to radio. A radio edit of this track may be a good idea as his first words to this are “I don’t give a f***’ about that’! Will be following his career with interest in the future.
