“has something poetic and revealing about it” Ishy – Elevate
The first thing to grab you about this track is the lyricism. If at first the music seems a little similar to a lot of recent mainstream releases, the feeling soon passes. What’s being said, spoken of, sung about, has a surprising and striking amount of substance and depth. The track is inspiring, it’s uplifting, and it’s very real. The leading voice brings forth these ideas about reaching for the stars, but the lines featured throughout present this idea in a completely new way – not clichéd, not predictable.
Every line has something poetic and revealing about it, though it’s easy to relate to – it’s easy to understand and to take on board, to agree with – still, it’s all expressed in a hugely original way.
The whole concept of ‘elevating’ is fresh, it’s intriguing, it’s clever, and it makes perfect sense once you listen to the whole thing in full.
The lyricism makes this track something special, and once you start to take that in the music as well begins to reflect something fairly far removed from what’s expected of r&b or hiphop or mainstream music in general. The auto tune effect at the beginning is a little misleading, as what follows is much more unique than this effect suggests. There’s a lot to listen to and a lot to like about the artist’s ideas, and about his rhymes, his word play, his honesty. The performance itself is impressive too, the energy is somehow both calm and, interestingly enough, quite elevated. The flow is quick and upbeat, and it may take a couple of listens to make sure nothing is missed, but it’s worth it. Hopefully there’s a lot more truth to come from the artist and a lot more to be spoken about in this new and very real way.
