“something fresh and unusual” Pyramids by BanGeraXii
Pyramids has a notably retro, classic electronica ambiance to it from the offset. When the beat kicks in it takes a turn for the more trip-hop side of things, and the switch in fact works really well – the music that follows has a thick yet mellow feel to it, the energy is relaxed and somewhat experimental, instrumentally. The experimental element develops further as the song progresses, the beat remains the backbone of the whole thing, but those classic, vintage synths add something fresh and unusual.
The creative energy of the track is the most striking thing about it. For an instrumental work, the recording is considerably short, though it does give you plenty of time within which to enjoy the main riff and soundscape. The final section of the song opens up a door to something else entirely, and this moment has even more of the intrigue that the opening few moments offered, though it’s this section where things come to an end. Interestingly, the idea of a pyramid comes to mind when listening, as if the song has been built and structured to reflect this concept, but perhaps that’s the clever influence of the title.
The track has a great and mellow beat that would suit certain hip-hop performances, there’s a lot of room within the music to write some relevant and unusual rap lyrics over the top, so the potential for collaboration is great. The synth sound is refreshing and the notes chosen work brilliantly alongside of the driving baseline and beat. That final section really settles into something distant and dreamlike, it’s compelling to listen to, and it makes the prospect of further music from the producer an exciting one. Hopefully there’s plenty more to look forward to. It’s always great to hear experienced producers utilising their creativity.
