“soaked in relevant emotion” Lil Quwe ‘Move ON’
The artist’s leading vocal on this track has a really unusual rhythm to it; it’s unusual enough to grab your attention fairly early, but not so out of place that it doesn’t work. It seems that as the music progresses and opens up, which it does – the mix has been really creatively and effectively crafted – the vocal fits in more and more. You get used to the stop and start nature of the voice, and what’s great about it is that the honesty is undeniable – the sound of the voice itself is soaked in relevant emotion that suggests this could only be the truth.
The lyrics as well have a huge story to them; there’s a definite sadness at times, but the whole concept of the track is to move on – and that key idea, that hook, is definitely one that stays with you; particularly as the track cleverly and quite simply ends at this moment of repetition. There’s a lot about the artist’s sound that is fresh, the voice itself is unique to the performer, as is the flow. The autotune effect is becoming a little less enjoyable than it was at first discovery, there are other effects available if the modern or retro sound is what you’re after, but as always this is definitely a matter of personal preference and it’s important to stay true to what you and your art are all about.
The honesty of the track is definitely valuable, and although the backing track is nothing particularly striking, it’s well polished and it works well in this context – your focus is on the leading voice, the lyrics, and the emotion of the piece on the whole. The concept of moving on from negativity or toxic relationships is also a valuable one; there’s a fair bit to appreciate about the track.
