Shannon Burchett – Nirvana
Shannon Burchett explores a peacefulness on the dreamy “Nirvana”. Lots of it has a romantic quality to it. The yearning aspect about it feels real. A lighter than air aspect wafts on through all of it. From the glistening keyboards to the laid-back rhythms feel gorgeous. Neon-hued colors enter on with the layers radiating warmth. Plenty of it has a kindness. Lots of the work weaves itself around the listener. His voice is crystal clear, so calming. Rhythms hold back for there is this sense of purpose with each gesture. Done with the utmost of dignity the piece has a regal sensibility, one that drives the work along. Inclusions of elements of dream pop, soul, R&B, and more all enter into the fray. Refusing to be pigeonholed Shannon incorporates so much within the relatively scaled back minimal style.
From the first gesture the mood it set. They make sure that every element gets plenty of room to roam. Over the course of the journey an intimacy takes shape. By baring his very soul the whole of the experience feels life-affirming. Much of it has a romanticism, one that pines for belonging. Melodies here prove to be the perfect counterpoint to the sheer tenor of the atmosphere itself. For the final stretch these many wisps do merge to become a relatively remarkable experience, with the patience from the beginning fully rewarded.
“Nirvana” shows off Shannon Burchett’s ability to create a world that has a sweetness about it.
