Robert Machado – The Feast
An aggressively out there take on outsider pop, Robert Machado forges his own path on “Feast”. Truly beautiful to behold Robert Machado creates his own unique language in how he manages to merge multiple genres into a cohesive whole. Funk, jazz, experimental, hard rock, dance, ambient, and more the whole thing expands out into the sky. Bringing to mind other unique sonic travelers like R. Stevie Moore, the songs teem with life. Easily the highlight comes from Robert Machado’s surrealist lyricism, that simultaneously draws from dream logic with a poetic bent.
Listen on Spotify:
Ceremonial at first, the title track “Feast” sets the tone. Featuring a wide slew of different approaches, the shredding strewn throughout gives the song an unhinged edge. Woozy riffs and ramshackle rhythms give “Bullfrog and the Praying Mantis” a broken futuristic blues quality to it. Synthesizers gain a regal quality on the powerful “Even Kill”. Calm introduces “Locked Room” and chaos ends it as it slowly tears itself apart. Truly colossal “Private Bibles” goes for an early 90s alt-rock flavor to it, making it the clear highlight of the album. Full of powerful imagery, “Private Bibles” opts for a psychedelic take. A melted western twang anchors the mellowed-out grooves of “29”. Incredible strength and power pour through “Lost”. “Ticking Away” ends the album off on an ambitious, sprawling note showing off Robert Machado’s impressive chops.
Robert Machado offers a bewildering style on the all immersive aural exploration that is “Feast”.
