[Review] Keep it 100 (T-360 feat Konnect)
The backdrop to this track features a powerful meeting of instrumental moments that make for a pretty epic soundscape and overall beat. There’s a distinct level of variation, musically speaking, as the track moves along – so even before the vocals come into play, the concept of structure and the strength of this in capturing and maintaining an audience’s attention has been considered and appropriately applied.
The track’s sentiment comes through the very moment the vocals begin to play. The leading artist’s performance has an urgency and passion to it that fits in with the high energy and intensity of the music really well. There’s a manic sense of movement to it all, and this is kept at a particularly high level from start to finish.
That hook is the key idea of the song, the line is repeated over and over, without melody or any particular variation from the usual flow and tone of the verses, however it makes certain you’re familiar with it by the end of the track.
The verses are where the appeal lies, in addition to the musicality of the piece. The lyrics hold the key to the writer’s thought process, to the story telling, to the reason behind all of this. There are certain lines within the track that strike as clever – the ongoing references to boxing, Balboa and such, work well for the short time that they are under the spotlight.
The accompanying video for the track furthers this access to the artist and gives you a more complete idea of what it’s all about; not that it’s difficult to work out. The realness is the essence of the writing, the concept of paving your own path, staying true to your own beliefs – all of which is likely to inspire and motivate.
