[Review] J Rich – The Enemy “a well crafted and memorable track.”
The track opens up well, the re-pitched melody and the simple synth riff create a certain mood and a minimal yet stylish space within which the leading artist can then express his verses and the underlying sentiment of the song. There’s a lot of character to the track, particularly in the way the artist’s flow varies as the track progresses. The lines have a laid back nature for the most part, and the accompanying video adds to this – there are plenty of smiles, good times, working hard and focusing on something that matters, prioritising music or personal pursuits over relationships. The track gets the point across well, and the melody used for the line ‘Can I be honest with you’ is one that is simple yet hugely effective, this moment actually stays with you long after listening, making this a well crafted and memorable track.
The overall energy of the track is easy going and offers a certain smoothness and calmness that works well in allowing listeners to turn it up and enjoy the good vibes. The whole thing has been well produce, the levels allow everything involved to work in unison in crafting what is a well structured piece of music and writing. The instrumentation and the alternative vocal part make for a strong contrast with the rapper’s own vocal parts, so the piece keeps you interested throughout, and there’s a lot to like about it. J Rich puts a lot of thought and effort into his music, all the while staying true to his own sense of artistry and individuality, and this is something that shines brightly within his releases. His storytelling in this case has a commendable level of honesty and this adds greatly to the value of the track.
