[Review] Home Sweet Home by The Magnum Font “a fairly funky and memorable piece. “
The Magnum Font taking the creativity of his music a little further this time makes for a fairly funky and memorable piece. The instrumentation is notably unusual, particularly for hip-hop, the notes featured and the style in which they are presented has a similar, early-Eminem feel to the artist’s previous releases. There’s a touch of medieval influence to the music, which makes it particularly interesting. There’s also a distinct and regularly included hook section, offering a break from the rhythm of the verse vocals, and also, it seems, inciting a change in lyricism and rap flow within what follows. Therefore I think that structurally this is The Magnum Font’s strongest release yet.
As always, his voice and lyricism are immediately recognisable. In this case there’s a touch of depth and reflective poetry, something perhaps more focused or with a certain direction and intent in mind. The chorus or hook has a slightly whispered and intriguing ambiance to it, and this too adds to the creativity of the mix and helps keep things interesting and unique. The sound is undeniably unique, and the beat is enjoyable. The more you hear from the artist, the more his sound and his thought process and artistry begin to make sense and show themselves as true to who he is, so the more you’re likely to enjoy it and become a fan of it.
This track has everything, the story is really cleverly expressed – the weather being nice yet you’re feeling suicidal is a powerful moment, part of a great line and one of many that feature throughout this track. You find yourself wanting to hear everything he says, and even when the direction changes, you’re more inclined now to stay along for the ride. It’s definitely a personal favourite and the set up and structure of it work brilliantly.
