[Review] Get Lit “impossible not to be entertained”
As an instrumental piece this track has so much character and flair that it’s impossible not to be entertained by the developing soundscape. The electronic instruments, the synths chosen to construct the track have a blatantly retro or old school gaming sound to them which works brilliantly in this sort of upbeat setting. There’s also a commendable level of structure to the whole thing, so at over four minutes long the piece maintains a feeling of constant evolution, and therefore nothing gets tiresome, and these varying samples each take their turns and step into and out of the spot light intermittently.
The artist’s vocal part on top of the music seems a little far removed from the soul and skill of the music in some ways, although, the more you listen, the more it all settles in as a complete collection of relevant moments. It’s a pleasant sounding voice and there’s a lot of character in terms of the tone and the performance style, both of which present something fairly carefree and easy going, which means that it works as an additional instrument within the mix.
The lyrics however take the mood of the track in a different direction. That laid back element is still definitely present, there’s a carefree, almost humour soaked side to the words. Actually, in the context of this whole retro gaming sounds production style, the lyrics add to the unusual nature of it all in quite a big way. The bottom line is that you have to make the music you want to make, and this track comes across as the product of someone doing exactly that. It’s fun, it’s well recorded, well produced, and undoubtedly memorable. For an EDM producer, there’s a lot to like about this sort of creative output.
