[Review] Can’t Wait To Meet You – by Sean Forde “a heartfelt offering of reflective folk-pop”
Sean Forde’s song ‘Can’t Wait To Meet You’ is a heartfelt offering of reflective folk-pop that deals directly with a personal experience and the onset of excitement, anticipation, and everything else that comes with the expectation of a new person in one’s life. The subject matter is expressed in a very loving way, the music has a simplicity that backs up the sentiment of the song effectively, and the melody has that familiar warmth that certain songs present when they come from a place of genuine happiness.
The song’s topic is something that many or most people are likely to relate to at some time or other in their lives. ‘You’re never ready but I am ready to be caught off guard’ is a fantastic lyric. It’s the final line of the song, repeated just enough times to really grab you. It’s the perfect way to explain the essence of the song and it’s a strong way to finish, hopefully leaving it’s idea lingering in the mind of the listener. The accompanying video offers further insight as to the theme of the song, but the storytelling or pondering expressed throughout the verses makes it all pretty clear. Despite the deeply personal nature of the writing, the words chosen reflect a certain accessibility – a vagueness even, which welcomes any audience, which reaches out and connects with anyone who will be familiar with these feelings.
The piano led musical backdrop makes for the perfect choice for this song, the verses work beautifully alongside it, and the instrumental development as the song moves forwards adds some further, equally organic elements that help keep things interesting, and that suggest a live performance with a full band would be as warm and bright as the recording, if not more so.
