When Plato said that music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything, I will say he was talking about this track.
There are so many aspects of this track that are worthy of attention, not to say the least is the piano but the highlight for me is the harmony which perpetrates some of the squishiest dissonance stacking ever to have graced the mainstream charts and the high point of this towering achievement in the mix.
A lot of mixes in dance music genres trade heavily on thick synths, heavy effects and copious distortion to create full sounding texture, but at the expense of mix clarity but evidently this is not obtainable in this track. The quality and detail of individual paths are simply obscured behind a layer of mush. The track “breathe” happens to be one of the great old mix this is because the mix engineers have managed to keep everything crystal clear, allowing those lovely string recordings to make a real statement despite their comparatively smooth high-frequency timbre.
I will say this because the mixer appears to have resisted the temptation of using heavy synth pads to support the intended choruses. An instrumental mix, which can be phase cancelled against the full mix almost isolating the appearance of the vocals; courtesy of this dodges, its apparent that the vocals have been carved around a fair bit and that much of the second chorus appears to have been copied from the first.
Obviously, the lead line will rely on heavy reverb and tempo synced delays, but the isolated vocals suggest that there are no short reverb or stereo. Widening effects, which helps to explain how the will manage to remain so up front, despite its subjective wetness.
In music, different playback systems and listening situations affect what people are likely to hear and appreciate, that is why it is always advisable to put first into consideration while cooking up a mix.
