“production wise there’s a clear level of skill” Doomzdayz Beatz – Origin
There’s a striking sense of originality to the beat that is ‘Origin’. The track is fairly minimal when you listen to and break apart the instrumentation, but those that have been chosen have a notable element of unique flair. The opening synth riff, for example, although presenting a very simplistic set of notes, has the tone of a classic or vintage synth from way back when. The riff itself could easily be heard at a much greater tempo, an alternative version or remix, perhaps, and this kind of thing often adds a fair bit of value to a producers work – if you can hear the possibilities, what you can add, how you might collaborate; there lies a world of opportunity.
The originality or creativity of the piece is notable because, more often than not, modern day producers tend to copy and paste a lot of their loops, and re-build or re-brand somebody else’s work. I think in this case there’s been a brief bit of experimentation with what works, the way in which the riff drops out and starts back up again intermittently – it suggests a creative freedom that has not been overly inspired or influenced by the intensity of mainstream dance or hip-hop tracks of late.
The music has a brilliant hip-hop beat to it, very organic sounding in a lot of ways, and this fused with the classic synth sound brings about a really unusual combination of vibes. This ambiance, this dreamy backing track, running out alongside such a thick and heavy beat, is really something fresh to listen to. Creative freedom indicates passion, and production wise there’s a clear level of skill. These are just about the two main things needed to head confidently in any particular artistic direction. The possibilities are endless.
